I was an ST owner back in the day. Enjoyed many classics that I still remember now.

I just wondered that because the ST and Amiga had the same cpu if i remember correct? The ST was 1mhz quicker than the Amiga which was 11percent back then.

Did the Amiga have a vastly superior graphics chip that made it overall superior? I remember seeing Shadow Of The Beast on it.

The ST had midi which was pretty handy back then. I'm not too sure about the graphics chip though. I was one of the suckers that got the 1040 STe though.Haha!

I've still go my old ST 520 (I think) I the loft at home, most of the keys don't work though. Pretty sure there's a box full of games with it too.

used em both and enjoyed it, the st was out first i believe, bought an amiga later
memories of arkanoid 2
hades nebula, gold runner, tonic tile, etc

Loved my (dads) ST 520. I remember us sending it away to have the RAM upgraded so we could play Street Fighter II! I think the Amiga had the edge graphics-wise though. But the ST (as previously mentioned) had the MIDI port, and was still being used for years after they stopped selling them by musicians and such. Some of the best known PC music production software started on the ST (Cubase, for example).

I remember being jealous of my cousins Amiga because it had slighty better sound than my ST.

Needless to say I sold my ST and bought an Amiga from the local ads. :D

Had a Atari ST/FM and an ST/e (dunno the difference).

Mate had an Amiga, cant remember if it was 500 or 1200 but it was miles better and had a wider choice of games.

Dungeon Master, Bionic Commando, Captain Blood, Xenon, Hybris......great days.

*edit* not forgetting Speedball and IK+. There was a special move that made your gi fall down.

The Amiga had basically the first 'multi-core' system.. although the cores were specialised it owned the ST in that area.

I was sat with my BBC Master and Archimedes/RiscPC before jumping boat to the world of PCs..

I bought the Atari ST with my first ever wage packet. Blew it all £320 if I remember rightly. Could not afford the Amiga :( that said it gave me Elite, and that's all that mattered :)

The ST had better sound didn't it ? I know the music for example on the ST was miles better. For example the R-Type intro music on the ST compared to the other systems (while also being an awesome game) !

I had an ST for ages when I was little. Went straight from that to a Playstation :p

Mates had Mastersystems / Megadrives, so used theirs.

Woah woah woah. Lets not get carried away here :p

Multicore system?? It had a couple of specialised custom chips to do all the fancy GFX stuff. Hardly multicore!

You have to remember the original ST, which all ST's were based upon until the STE in 1989, was about 2-3 years old before the amiga arrived! The Amiga came about after one of the co-designers of the ST buggered off and formed Commodore. It not a suprise the Amiga was superior!

Anyways, if your comparing Atari and Amiga generations...Falcon 030 Vs A1200 ;)

The amiga had 4 channel 8bit sample playing chip.

Good thread. I had the A600, I think it came with some game based on Quavers and Lethal Weapon, and to think then the graphics were so good. Commodore C64 before that with the Datasette tape recorder!
Bubble Bobble and Ikari Warriors - now there's a good co-op...
PS Anyone remember Rob Hubbard tunes...
