Atari ST vs Amiga

The A600 was prob better than the ST, but the A1200 with it's AGA chipset **** all over it.
A friend had an ST and I never really saw the point :D

I still miss my Amiga(!)

I'm glad I went to PS1 from Amiga. Old mate had the Amiga CD32 if anyone remembers it. CD based console. Was never going to take off, I think it lacked a good games catalogue or rather it didnt have one, and to think it had almost all the makings of being like the PS1.

Jaguar > CD32 :D Although that flying game that game with it made me feel very sick.... It's still in the loft I think...

Had both. Still got 2 of my A500s as well plus some original games. Could not bear to part with them!! Staggering how much they cost back on release. 1985 Atari STFM520 (with the silly mouse & joystick ports underneath the keyboard which kept breaking). Cost me about £299 which was a lot of money in 1985!! Had loads of Amigas. A500,A500 Plus, A600, A1200. First one cost me about £499 in 1986 was a lot of dough + also had to buy a Phillips Colour monitor for it.

ST came out first and for about a year was top dog for games support then the Amiga obliterated it and dominated as it was technically superior and easier to develop for so you had a golden era between 1986-1992 of strong Amiga games. Commodore's greed & extreme piracy killed it and allowed the PC, megadrive & SNES to overtake it.

Had an STe and thanks to my sister and her boyfriend both going to university in Portsmouth, I had a rather large collection of Pompey Pirate disks (plus a fair few Automation ones too).

The STe is long since gone (one of the biggest mistakes of my gaming life) so I have to make do with emulators these days. *sigh*

Still got my A1200 with it's Blizzard 030 accellerator with a whopping 32mb ram (34mb including the onboard ram) and a massive 240mb (yes that's megabytes and thinking about it now it may actually have not been that big...) hard drive.

Had an early ST where the disc drive was separate, loved it to bits but sold it for an amiga A500 :).Still have an amiga A500,600 & a brand new boxed A1200 which i bought from one of the last places still selling them, pretty sure it's an amiga technologys one & not commodore.

What do you expect it was a generation ahead of the old ST!! Hence why I stated Falcon030 Vs A1200 :p

Falcon blew it away!

Quoted for innacuracy.

The Amiga came about after one of the co-designers of the ST buggered off and formed Commodore. It not a suprise the Amiga was superior!

Commodore were going long before that, the VIC20 and the C64 both existing before the ST.

Still have my A500, A1200 with 120mb HDD, Atari 800xl and ST520, and 2 rubber keyed ZX Spectrum. All working the last time I checked.

Funnily enough i've just this minute finished a quick game of cannon fodder 2 on a certain Amiga emulator, that game still plays great today!

On another note I never realised the Atari ST had MIDI......

IIRC there were a few people who jumped ship from Atari to Amiga. However both computers were around way before these two beasts. Atari was very famous in arcades and had a few consoles before it. Where as Commodore had the C64 / Vic 20 and C16 before that.

Currently have a C64 / Amiga 1200 Tower / Amiga 2000 / Atari STe and looking to get more for my collection. Would love a C128D and a Spectrum but just have to be patient.

Oh on a side note our music teacher in high school used to use an ST for the music lessons. Made some damn good music out of that and I can see why they're still being used in music now.

Dungeon Master, Bionic Commando, Captain Blood, Xenon, Hybris......great days.

*edit* not forgetting Speedball and IK+. There was a special move that made your gi fall down.

Dungeon Master

Couldn't remember any games until I read that, but I used to play Dungeon Master to death on my old 520ST.

Good times

I loved my ST thats what got me into computers that and the speccy, had st > ste and still have my atarti falcon, however the amiga was a great machine it was way ahead of its time.

Amiga A500 here.

Remember my mum paying just over £400 for it. It came with f-18a interceptor, treasure island dizzy and something else that I cant remember.

Loved, It came from the desert and Xenon 2 especially the music soundtrack.

Atari St was the poor mans Amiga for me back then.

Had the Atari as it was cheaper when i was in 6th form then bought the Amiga when i got a job.Great games on both.

Carrier Command being one of them.
