I believe GB will be protesting it. Don't know what the chance is of being reinstated, probably extremely small. But these rules are so stupid if for instance, he had half a foot outside the line.

I think they've determined he was fine with regards to that.

The pundits think it is simply a mistake with regarding to the disqualifying judge failing to properly understand the rules around positioning, or the person on the track put Rooney in the wrong position in the first place.

I think it is a little difficult to see who was ahead at 200m so the latter may have happened.

Damn USA takes 4x100 from lane 1 - Bronze for us :). I guess USA running from lane 1 after that baton issue was a compromise...

Dont understand why Rooney was DQed - judge seems to be in the wrong considering we were ahead at 200m mark before his change-over

ps3ud0

Bolt started level with Japan .... rest is history.

Looked like Gemili went off too early and caused a bad last change, but I don't think they were ever in contention anyway.

If the judges don't understand the rules or are getting it wrong then surely those decisions have to be overturned? Except that there's already precedent at these Olympics that decisions won't be overturned despite what appears to be an effective admission of an error in the judging e.g. boxing. Although in fairness there has been some quite good judging in the cycling (excepting perhaps the rather confusing keirin final) where they used a bit of discretion regarding the spirit of the law rather than a slavish interpretation of the rules.

Magnificent by Usain Bolt and teammates so the big man is unquestionably the greatest sprinter ever.

Well done to the USA women's 4x100m team for winning despite being in lane 1 and having to re-run their qualifying. A great bronze by the British women as well.

The reason given is around taking the baton outside of the zones. GB appeal rejected.

However, there doesn't appear to be video evidence of this.
