ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Interesting plot... It certainly appears that a number of the bars have been "chopped" downwards though.

It looks like the results for Batman, Crysis, Crysis warhead, ET quake wars and Metro 2033 were above "1.2" on the plot, and that left4dead and STALKER break above "1.3".

Quite why someone would want to go to the trouble of editing a slide like this in such a poor fashion is beyond me... Even using MS paint it would be easy to do a much better job.

here we go by inverting the colors the edits show up much better.

I place a little marker where edits occur.

Still this is a fact that it wont be 30% quicker than 580GTX and pre hype was pure BS.

yeah that is exactly the same as 6870 vs 460 , take a look

the strange thing is if you compare it to the inverted one , seems like the modder has been able to pull of a couple of bars flawlessly... or maybe i compared it to the wrong original slide.

Firstly the graph has been chopped a few times, and the edits are very strangely done.

If you look at it properly you will notice some of "edited" the bars are into the blackened areas, and you can see peak lines well above the points you show.

The chart is very dodgy at best.

how? all he is doing is replying to a thread with a smiley or a frown :)

... Yeah, after you've given him a key (yes=..., no=...).

If you replaced each letter of the alphabet with a smiley, he could write an entire review. You don't think this would violate the NDA?! Just because you give the information in a different language doesn't mean it's not information. By giving the key you just removed any question of ambiguity, and removed the possibility of getting a reply.

but isn't that what the slides do anyway?

What slides? AMD have not released any... The one "performance" slide is a chopped version of an old Barts slide, and the informational power-point slides are discussions of the architecture, and were not officially released (just leaked due to sly audience photography).

Our sources indicate that Geforce GTX 580 should end up faster than Radeon HD 6970 at least in many of the popular benchmarks

i hope that performance part is wrong damn

Thats not surprising and probably true, for instance I would highly suspect AMD have no chance of beating Nvidia in Lost Planet 2, the 580gtx vs 5870 was painful, but its a game that feels like another of Nvidia's tech demo type games. Utter rubbish, barely playable, looks VERY poor for the actual performance it gives.

Even if AMD were 50% ahead average I would think in one or two situations the 580gtx could beat it, likewise the 6970, I'd be shocked if it couldn't beat it in Crysis, but it could lose every single other benchmark, who the hell knows.

As for slides, who knows, almost certainly fakes, almost every leaked slide to date, if it has actual specs or numbers, is a fake.

Performance numbers leaked, like the uniengine and potentially a vantage, no one has a clue if they are real, and if they are real, what card they are based on. Its looking increasingly likely that AMD "fooled" people by sending out 1536shader cards for testing and that 1920 will be what we really see in retail as a 6970. But that could be bs aswell, basically we know nothing, and I'd be hesitant to believe any numbers, though I think AMD may have put too much of a scare into their partners as probably even AMD want a couple leaked numbers out their by now :p

What we really need, is someone who lives near Charlie, to accidentally bump into him in a bar and buy everyone several rounds until he's drunk then get him talking ;)

...not sure if it is the same graph - i'm sure AMD have a style sheet for their graphs/slides/presentations as well as a set of key games they test things against but have a look at the 1.4 line just to the right of batman... it goes lighter for a fair portion of the graph... 1.4x 480gtx would be fairly exciting...

Well I think AMD have done a very good job of keeping their new beasts under wraps, I'm 100% certain that the 6970 will be a 580 killer.
