So basically the new architecture has 1536 shaders, but thats the equivalent of 1920 shaders on a 5870 architecture, that correct?
1536 for a 6950 and 1920 for a 6970.

If the card is for example 1536 shaders based on a new architecture, we need to get across to punter that is actually equivalent to a 1920 shader equipped 5870.
Arse, sounds like it is 1536![]()
In order to test as fair as possible I am setting up a rig with 5870 in and will run the last 3D Mark releases on it and then drop in a 6970 and do the same. So then we can get some numbers on how it compares to the card its replacing, the 5870.![]()
Who cares if it was 800 though, this new architecture is more efficient, so less does more basically.![]()
Only OcUK has stock right now, others have not even had stock shipped to them yet, all I can say is OcUK will have more and our price will be very competitive, think back to how good the 58xx launch was and how surprisingly cheap they were at launch. The 69xx series shall repeat this, so do be warned after launch prices could creep up, thats just a heads up.
Those after a cheap 480, give me a few days and I might be able to offer a cheeky deal on MSI/Gigabyte cards.![]()

It couldn't be, there are leaked slides stating the 6990 has 3840 shaders. So either the 6950 or 6970 has to have 1920 shaders for the 6990 to use 2x of the GPUs.
Also, to add to that, 1536 is a pitiful increase over 1120 and 960, AMD wouldn't want crossfired 6800s to smash a 6900 *that* badly when it comes to performance.
That would be legendary Gibbo. The current prices make little sense when you can get a 570 for less but no where seems to be dropping them
Plus 1536 shaders is a 20% crop from 1920 which sounds about right.
Keep looking, they be dropping.

Yeah, I guess they will eventually just a case of when. Been following a few in MM recently and I know they have dropped in price considerably. Provided you can keep it cool and don't mind the power draw they could be a bargain if they drop enough![]()
Just writing the true specs is always the best way to avoid confusion. Changing 1536 to "1920 virtual cores" or saying "20% greater performance than 6800" will confuse people. We have to make sure punters understand the description. AMD official slide said, that GTX 580 faster than 6970. LOL.
FAIL. FAIL.
