**ATI RADEON 7800 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE!!**

BF3 runs a treat on these 7850's.

Had a good couple of hours last night running 1050/1450, 1080p everything on Ultra, High Post Processing AA and I was sitting at 60fps (Vsync'd) most of the time, few blips into the high 50's, and very rarely 45's when some colossal explosion goes off right in your face.

That was on a full 64 player server on Caspian Border and Kharg Island.

The entire time it felt very smooth, never felt like it was getting bogged down. I was suprised that the memory usage was only around 1.25GB, with people claiming BF3 needed 2GB cards to pull off Ultra... I guess if you used normal MSAA instead of FXAA, but I don't know why you'd want to do that when the FXAA looks just as good imho and has considerably less impact on your FPS! But maybe that's just me.

Eitherway it's a big improvement of the 560Ti I had, I couldn't turn Ultra everything on with the 560Ti without it slowing down, I had to run a mix of High and Ultra to get smooth FPS. The 7850 on the other hand handles Ultra fine.

Your reckon your 7850 is ok for BF3 on Ultra using FXAA??

What res are you using?

Just the built in one ya, the 'Post Processing AA' which is set to High (far as it goes).

Everything else on ultra, 1080p, gives me the fps I was talking about eariler

55-60's 95% of the time, few blips into 45-50's in heavy fighting.

Feels smooth all the time however.

hmm well that is interesting to know.

I was thinking the minimum I would need would be a 7950, but it seems a 7870 is also a huge leap from my 5870.

I'm on a 7850 ;) a 7870 would be even better :D

As you can see here a stock 7850 running Ultra + FXAA will pull 48fps in 1200p, so in 1080p it'll be around 50fps or so...

At stock a 7850 seems to match your 5870 performance wise in BF3... however...

These cards OC like mad going from 860/1200 -> 1050/1450 on stock volts! The 7850 OC'd will be faster than a stock 7870, hence hitting the 60's for the most part. With a volt bump reviews have seen these cards hit 1150-1200 core.

The 7870 of course will go even further giving you 7950 performance, or close enough.

7850 is 1x6pin
7870 is 2x6pin

You can get 7850's for around £190, and if you look around 7870's for around £255 (current special offer), or more normally around £270.

Well if you want cool, quiet, and low power usage the 7850 is certainly the card for you.

Plus with the OC headroom these things have it'll even be a nice boost to your FPS, also doubling up on the memory will also help with future games.

Hex i still cant quite get over just how quiet this MSI 7850 is! I have set the fan to 50% and the difference between the 7850 and my old reference 5850 at 50% is mad! i no longer need to wear headphones :D

I've just left mine on auto and it never goes over 44% ish, and even then I can't hear it at all... it's ridiculously cool!

any hints as to where you can get this from?

Sorry, we're not allowed to do that, you'll have to use your google-fu.

Benchmarks here put the 7870 and the 7950 pretty close in terms ofthe fps that matter.

Almost no difference interms of BF3.

Am taking it that a upgrade from a 5870 to a 7870 would be worth the £ to upgrade?

Note to self: I must resist, the temptation to upgrade. I want an Nvidia card this time round. Waiting on the 670's.

max 132
fps 62.6
fps 60.2

max temp during testing got too 69 with fan speed 51%

By the way even overclocked to 1100mhz i dont think the 7850 would match a 7870.

My 7850 @ 1050 is pretty much matching that 7870 @ stock.

At 1050/1450 I get:

score 1343
min 24.3
max 109.7
fps 53.3

So it's near enough the same (taking differences in system setups and margin of error etc).

Reviews also show that a clocked 7850 is as fast or slightly faster than a stock 7870.

7870 can obviously then OC and pull away again however, and when it does it's not far off 7950 performance. :)

Both are excellent cards.
