ATI's R600 is on track for Q4

The DX 10 bit is irrelevant.

You think the r600 is not worth it but a 7950 is. :p

It isnt as you cant use DX10 till next year, the 7950 is not a DX10 card, ppl are on about buying em as they are the next gen DX10 cards, but you can't use DX10 till next year so it is pointless getting a one, you can't use DX10 till Vista comes out next year, so why buy a DX10 card in October, there is just no point i don't see the logic.

Dunno, the R600 is supposedly going to be the fastest DirectX 9 card ever aside from being a DirectX 10 card. I'd buy one, but I already have an X1800XT and more sense than money, so I won't need to upgrade my card until DirectX 10 is useful anyway lol. :p

I think getting a DX 10 card is pointless too for £400 as the features cannot be used for some time.

But regardless of this it will still be faster than a 7900 GTX x1900XTX in dx9 games.Just like the 7950.

I'm with LoadsaMoney on this one. Yes it will be fast with DX9 games but the whole point of it is for DX10 games, and as LoadsaMoney said, DX10 games will only be playable with Vista which should be available after xmas. Even then the card will be a waste because DX10 games won't start hitting the shelves like they do now for a long time, atleast a year.

If we take the fact that the card is DX 10 it will still be much faster than the previous gen cards just like the 7950.

so at 400 quid its ok to buy the 7950 as its dx 9 but not the R600 as its DX 10?

I don't follow.

Agreed the DX 10 bit is not important if its going to be the fastest DX9 card ever.

lol Exsomnis and easy agreeing!

Then don't.

Thats not what I meant.
And I think you knew that.
Why is the DX 10 bit so important if its the fastest DX 9 card on the market?

Will a DX 10 card play DX 9 games slower?

TBF, we don't know how much the 7950GX2 or R600 will cost when the R600 is actually out. The 7950GX2 may well be much cheaper since the R600 will be launched with plenty of marketing gimmicks (DirectX 10, SM4.0, simpler Crossfire, unified shaders, etc.) and Nvidia will still need to sell.

Your right you don't get it.

What don't I get?

That the R600 will be one of the fastest cards on the market?
It doesn't matter if its not worth the DX 10 bit.We all know this feature cannot be utilised on release.

But in DX 9 games it will one of the fastest cards out.

won't they have G80?

I don't deny that it won't be the fastest card with DX9, i'm just saying that the whole point of the R600/G80 is to run DX10 games with vista. Of course it will play DX9 games to the max, but that's not what this argument is about.

will still be their fastest DX9 card though.... very future proof card etc. if your upgrading around that time, will most likely be the best solution.

Are some people under the impression that the DX10 cards wont be able to play DX9 cards - cos thats very... very wrong.

agreed.

DX10 isnt important, but ppl are going to get sucked into DX10, buy a 7950 in October, its gona be a lot cheaper than it is now, and will be cheaper till DX10 is able to be used.

The whole point is that the R600 will be the fastest card on the market regardless of DX 10.
