##Atomic Heart thread##

I feel like this has some serious missed potential.

The main issue for me is that I don't think it knows what tone it is trying to set. We've got this sort of creepy, Russian utopia gone haywire aesthetic and premise, juxtaposed with an irritating overly American dullard speaking his dumb mind every few minutes. We've also randomly got a sex obsessed equipment upgrade machine which doesn't seem to fit in at all with the society they showed us at the start (all the women wearing brown shirts and trousers etc). It seems to try and inject humour all the time, but most of it falls flat.

It feels like they have tried to smash together the tone of bioshock and Duke nukem in one game and for me it doesn't work.

Also, I know it's about robots, but the techno focused soundtrack doesn't work for me either. In fact I hate the music score.

I will persevere as the game itself seems quite fun, and the visuals are all incredible.

If they got a really talented writer and composer on board, this could have been something special. Unfortunately the only talent seems to be behind the technical/visual side of things.

Personally I love the soundtrack, just because something isn't to your taste doesn't mean it's bad.

Anyway, finally made it out, now to figure out how to get rid of the robots in the area

This game looks really good.

How's everyone enjoying it so far?

Out of 10?
I'd give it an 8. Runs great, looks great, plays great and has distinct Bioshocky feel to it. Humour falls a little flat and the main character is a touch irritating but I can very easily look past those things because of the aesthetics, gameplay and performance.

I'm tempted to get it. Is the Microsoft subscription plan the most economical way to get it if playing on PC?
Well, it costs about a dollar so yeah.

Although I am enjoying it so much I am thinking about getting steam version, to be able to use its features and play on Steam Deck (where the game runs amazingly well, because it is legit one of the best optimized games in modern era).

Quick question for you. Is this better than Daymare 1998? :p

Yes, I personally hate the score so far. If you like it, then great. For me it doesn't fit and doesn't immerse me in the world.

Insinuating the composer wasn't talented, was in hindsight, a bit harsh/not what i really meant. These problems could be more to do with the direction given/the music supervisor.

6-7 / 10 so far.

Haven't played loads of it yet so i guess that could change up or down a bit.

The biggest let down is the writing/script. It is really poor. The whole tone of the game is just a bit confused and odd. I think the PC Gamer review said it best:

"This is one of the oddest big-budget games I've played in a long time, filled with as many good ideas as bad ones, almost like it's been made without a filter. Everything went in."

That is where the problem lies. They didn't really commit to any one thing so tonally, it is all a bit of a mess. It would be far better if they fully committed to it being a silly/tongue in cheek type thing or a full on creepy dystopian horror story. Maybe a better writer could have tried to meld those two things together better, who knows.

Hopefully it sells well and they make a sequel taking such criticism into account. All I know is I want more single player games like this and less of the multiplayer games.

Yes, absolutely. I love this type of single player game too.

I think if they got a really good writing team and a bunch of really good english voice actors, and brought it all under a little more focus, a sequel could be excellent.

In this scene, taken in 4K all maxed, DLSS quality, my GPU (3080Ti) is only utilized from some 50% (with 60fps vsync).
I have yet to see a single stutter of framedrop.
How does this run so well, while something like Callisto Protocol runs so badly, comparatively? When it is also much more linear and closed off. I suppose this team has really good programmers.

One more shot, this was before boarding the train.

Visually and technically it is really impressive.
