Attack on NI military base

Nice cowardly attack by the Irish, I bet it was youngsters trying to stir up trouble, if they want a fight I am sure the British will give them one.

Don't tar us all with the same brush. The idiots who carry out these attacks have absolutely no support from the vast majority of nationalists and republicans. As Von Luck has said, that ignorant attitude will get us nowhere.

Don't worry, I am more than aware of the ignorant English that wind up every other country in the UK.

And what nationality are you that allows you to make racist comments about the English?

When you tell me, can i do it back?

If you are English, shame on you for being so stupid.

It won't be the IRA. They really have gone away. It'll be one of the breakaway groups.

I fancy a fish supper, but the town will be locked down by now :/

Wouldn't say that too soon mate.

And as has been said - so sad :(

Hope it quietens down Cob!

I wonder if it's got anything to do with the plethora of Sinn Féin representatives that have been on the news recently denouncing the deployment of the SRR in the Province.

tis prob a response to this from some muppets in a splinter group who think they're still fighting for something

oh noes they're going to try and stop us from robbing 7 million from a bank again

best shoot some engineers for the 'cause' - that will teach 'em

Should lock these scum bags up for life and forget about all that special political status rubbish - these people are just a bunch of mobsters

my uncle was there last night, was doing security, thankfully he had just left those guys off at one of the posts while he went back to another one for a min, he's in a bad way cause he came back up and one of the guys died right infront of his eyes.

2 of the guys badly injured were polish guys delivering pizza, one lost 3 fingers on and was shot pretty bad and the other had his legs totally torn apart, unlikely he'll survive apparently, it's totally uncalled for!

i just hope this doesn't provoke a return attack by others, this could well start a load of attacks again :(

Just saw on the news the 2 killed were only hours away from leaving for a deployment in afganistan. They were just collecting a pizza before they left. I hope this is a one off incident but the way things have been recently it could get worse. Just glad my dad isnt in the police here anymore, hes feels safer in Iraq than he did here during the troubles....

edit: I am by no way suggesting it is going to get that bad again, just there seems to be more dissedent activity lately thats all

Wise up.

Hopefully they people who did it are caught and brought to justice, and its not a return to tit for tat killings.

This is the exact opposite of what should happen if you don't want more soldiers to die in NI.

Cob i think you got frosted all wrong there, he meant on our doorstep as in the whole UK.

It’s a sad thing to say, but these people will never be caught. Too many people will be protecting them.

I bet them poor lads were crapping themselves thinking they would die in afghan and they ended up shot here for no reason at all.

Also i can’t understand the reason way some people are against the Special Forces coming over and to do some recon. They are just going to be collecting information on the IRA/UVF etc. I can’t see the problem in that at all.

I apologise for my attitude in this thread last night but frankly I have NO sympathy for EITHER side of the conflict, if it was a civil war in the third world over much needed food or water resources I could maybe understand it but it's not it's just a load of spoilt MFing 1st worlders using the same old political and religious stupidity as an excuse to Murder and torture.
Sick Sick Sick
Grow up get over it

I used to think you were an intelligent man, but Jesus Christ. Why don't you take a seat and slowly come to the realization that people like you are the ones who cause problems in NI more than any other.

As an Irishman I truly scoff at you. You can hurf, durf and puff your chest out all day, but the Irish aren't having any of it anymore, and haven't done for many years. Maybe if you kept up with the climate and politics in NI, you'd know this.

The Troubles aren't back by a long shot, and anything out of the ordinary is just that. Both republicans and unionists have put those days long behind, and anyone not following their peaceful path are considered neither.

It makes me laugh hearing some of the OcUK views on how Northern Ireland is now without really having a clue.

Sickening what happened.

They shot at the men while they were down.

Still don't think it was anything to do with paramilitaries.

Not as bad as some of the BBC Have Your Say comments though.

Some American idiot on HYS said:
"It was a valid attack on a military installation in use by an occupying army in disputed territory... it's an act of war, love it or hate it.

*Facepalm*

Sickening doesn't really cover it, to be honest.

One of those involved or an idiot without a clue. In either case I hope the BBC logged their IP address and sent it to the relevant authorities.

For those who can't or won't see how times have changed, all you need to do is read this...

BBC News quoting SINN FEIN PRESIDENT GERRY ADAMS said:
Last night's attack was an attack on the peace process. It was wrong and counter productive. Those responsible have no support, no strategy to achieve a United Ireland. Their intention is to bring British soldiers back onto the streets. They want to destroy the progress of recent times and to plunge Ireland back into conflict. Irish republicans and democrats have a duty to oppose this and to defend the peace process. There should be an end to actions like the one in Antrim last night. Sinn Fein has a responsibility to be consistent. The logic of this is that we support the police in the apprehension of those involved in last night's attack.
(highlighting added)

Regardless of what you may think of motivations, or even if you think there's a hidden agenda there, that's a public statement of support for PSNI by Sinn Fein. I think that might just be unprecedented.
