Attention emo's

VIRII posted: Having said all that emos do...
VIRII's real meaning: Having said all that, emos do...

What i read it as: Having said all that emos do...

Having said all that emos do seem to generate a body language and image that says "pick on me, punch me and hurt me, I am pathetic" so I can understand why people dislike them.

If a comma isn't there, i quite happily read it without one and in this case, has a different meaning.

Quote the whole sentence FFS and don't misrepresent what he said. This is getting ridiculous.

We get that dude....but if it meant that, then there would have been a follow on part to the sentence...

"Having said all that emos do is" this, then something else must be said right here in order for the sentence to make any sense..

Sidewinder...take this thread to your english teacher and ask them...Seriously...

I think they will be able to explain where youre going wrong better than any of us.

I shall. If i'm wrong and he tells me so, i'll happily accept that. Already tried to finish this thread, seems it couldn't be laid to rest.

Let's talk about emos. I am called an emo. Fancy an arguement about that instead?

Whats to argue about? Are you an emo or are you just called one?

-.-

I meant i am called one but i don't label myself anything. Last minute edit, forgetting about the grammar, my point was that i don't like the generalisation that all emos cut themselves etc.

Absolutely right. Without an "is" it can't be read the way sidewinder wants to read it. To change the meaning you either need to add an "is" remove the "that" or change the position of "all" and "that" around.

Where was that generalisation made? Or is it a common assumption about Emos? Either way, if I was a teenager again, I still wouldn't care less what people assumed about me. I'll never really understand why you would let it bother you.

Just for fun:

Maybe you should be more clearer then, a comma makes all the difference.
What do you mean? Maybe that comma could be re-postioned;

'Maybe you should be more clearer, then a comma makes all the difference.'

Oh and by the way it is not "be more clearer", either it is;

'Maybe you should be more clear then'

or;

'Maybe you should be clearer then'

If you are studying something do not come along as if u know it all. As you can see there are other people on this forum who know what he was saying but did not feel the need to be pernickety about his grammar.

Why dont you label yourself? Are you above labels?

In my experience, lots of real emos do cut themselves...and the fakes, of whom there are MANY, claim they do....

and the whole weeping in the dark thing.

To be fair it was I who pointed out the lack of a comma in my post, (I wonder how many AS students think the previous sentence should be "It was me who pointed out .....").

Ok I am slowly coming to realise that I don't know very much about Emos at all. I thought they were just wimpy kids who lacked self confidence on the whole.

What is this "cutting themselves" and "weeping in the dark" stuff all about? Do girls really go for that kind of lad? I would have thought that such behaviour would turn the majority of girls right off.

"Oh my boyfriend is so introspective and morose".
"Wow you're so lucky to have such a miserable boyfriend".
"I know, sometimes I could just kill myself with joy".

Kids - you are only young for a really short time, have fun, laugh, joke, smile and don't waste it being pointless. If you think being a teen is difficult then you're going to hate having responsibilities to more than your peer group and wardrobe.
