Audi owners in here!

Is this the same for a 2.0T A3 8P?
Mine does this, but not sure if was related to the "DSG farts" :)
Have a look under the car where the exhaust tips are, the valve and actuator are easy to see.

You can see it on this pic

What do you make of the video? Standard TFSI or is something on its way out?
That sounds completely normal tfsi.

No it'll be extra work the only thing they won't have to do is drain the coolant off twice, alternator has to come out and most of the hoses in the general area to be able to get to it. Easy enough just time consuming.

If its a low pitched vibrate the rear propshaft doughnut/dampers sieze and give a high irritating rearward drone/vibration but thats usually more around 2krpm.
Hmm.. It sounds like it's coming from behind the passenger airbag (LHD)/front right wheel.
Doesn't sounds like it's coming from the back at all.

Well it's having almost a grand's worth of work done so what's another £300? :p
But surely it'd be less as they're doing the cambelt and the waterpump, etc?

The exhaust valve could make sense. Could it also explain the throbbing noise?

It depends as that is at the side and rear, the thermostat is on the front under the inlet manifold. I'd imagine they would do it at reduced rate though as the alternator needs to be removed etc anyway.

Does it vibrate at all? If the clutch has been changed then the vibration dampers on the propshaft sometimes need replacing.

Could a faulty coolant temp sensor cause the needle to under 90C or is it definitely the thermostat?

Not really much vibration. On original clutch AFAIK and zero slipping.
The speedo needle is a bit wobbly too.
I now see why this car was so cheap :p

Thermostat all day long, usual common thing really. Noise is beginning to sound like the normal garden variety wheel bearing which after 100k isn't surprising.

I immediately thought wheel bearing. Ta :)
Makes sense that it disappears when it's in neutral. It's been a long day!

Wheel bearings are known to be weak on these, I've already replaced one. Audi and a specialist weren't massively different in price. For a rear on mine it was £330 wish. Mine has no play but was very loud.

Great, so I'm now looking at £1500 worth of work and I only haggled £1200 off :(
Mind you, only paid £9k..

It does seem a bit loud but may be the video as I had to bump up the volume, my MK5 Golf sounds similar at idle although my sister's 2011 S3 doesn't but think they changed engine revision by then.

The chain tensioner failing is more a slapping noise and you can easily tell it is coming from the right of the engine.
RHS in the car, or RHS when looking at it with the bonnet up?

Got it nicely up to temps today and sounds like a diesel within the car at idle.
Sounds suspiciously like what you said- front passenger side for LHD..

we need pics of the car ;)

also enquired about an a4 b7 last night, all sounds good, gunna phone the guy up tonight and hopefully this other dude hasn't gotten back to him and I can arrange to view/buy on the weekend :D

did say this other dude wanted to get an audi spot check. now I was planning on getting an AA/RAC xyz point check on the car but didn't know audi would too..... worth getting them to do it? any ideas for costs? :)

edit: is it the Audi health check? and am I right in reading that it's free :O ?!

I recently had the Audi health check done, was quite impressed on how thorough it was for a freebie. I have posted a pic so you can see the details. And yes it's 100% free :) Also get a free clean :)
health check
If it was anything I would think it was a sports exhaust upgrade or something, not sure if it was even an option.
Hope not, insurance won't be happy! Half tempted to contact to old owner on the V5 to see what he done to the car.

health check

thanks :D can't believe it's free!!! :p unfortunately, speaking to the seller last night, the guy got in contact and had the check done so he's just waiting to hear back again to organise collection on sat :( BOOO!!!! every ******* time!!! but he's said if it falls through he's got my number so will give me a shout :)

but for now.... back to autotrader xD

the car also had a nice flat bottom steering wheel that wasn't standard... got a quote to transfer my insurance eon my car over to this and it was gunna cost £110 for the insurance swap, with the steering wheel marked as a modified part it totaled..........£112.... xD suppose it's a pretty minor mod but I was seriously expecting the price to like £50-100 more :p (admiral)

To be fair, if that sale does fall through, you would have to question what came up on the health check that caused the sale to fall through.

yeah I would wonder why it would have fallen through, but as the guy had the health check and then was arranging I'd assume (I think he said as well) that everything was fine, minus the rear brake hoses which were advisory from the MOT in feb.

haha could well have been TBL :p but this is the first b7 I've seen with it in my massive search!! (A4 at least) might be an S or RS wheel or from early b8's maybe? but well as it's not the one I've seen normally would rather be safe than sorry :) would have to have insurance cancelled because it's a different audi wheel lol!

Turns out a valve on the turbo is bust and it's only boosting at 1bar instead of 2.whatever it should be.
I did think an S3 should be quicker. It struggled to get much past 120mph :p

Still, £50 for 50 bhp- not bad ;)
I'm such a plank :o
