Audi owners in here!

After extensively looking into Hondas and realising I don't want the financial suicide of owning an E39 M5 I have decided to keep my A3 for a bit. The fact I detailed it and it looks SWEET is helping.

Avus Silver FTW.
The only other thing I had in mind was either to put an R36 engine in this (same gearbox, not sure if it would work without Quattro) or find an Avus Silver 3.2 - I don't even think they made any.

Looks good :)

Just washed mine quickly at work today and amazing how much difference a car looks after it has been dirty for quite some time. Any thoughts of me changing gone out the window for the next 24hrs anyway!

What engine is yours? Worth spending £500 on a remap etc to get a good boost in power to make the change of car gremlins go away??

1.8t FSI S-Tronic. Is a good engine. Mostly helped by the gearbox, neck and neck on a standard 8L 225 S3 on a quick play I had when I first had it. Every time he changed gear I edged next to it because my shifts are full throttle almost instant. Only 160hp FWD.
I might remap it one day. Told a simple remap will get me to 220hp. Honestly I only find myself needing more power if I am in 6th on a hill and that is because I worry about tapping it down from 6th to 3rd too quickly.

I really want a bigger N/A engine. I am thinking just work hard and then put an R36 engine in it. Told it is possible and relatively easy as well. Car only done 35k so there is no rush :)

looking nice and not got bird poop on it this time :D
I was suprised too as I took the pictures 40 miles away from home and last washed it a whole week before I took those pictures (yesturday)! It has full Autoglym treatment and G-Technique sealant :)

Hi again guys, just a couple of general questions about the 2.0 FSI engine in the A3, a few people have said that it isn't much cop, is there any weight to their claims?

Is it correct that you have to run it on super to get the best power & fuel economy, otherwise the ECU adjusts the map to suit lower quality fuel?

Are there any general reliability concerns?

Does anyone have one in here? What sort of MPG are we looking at? Claimed figures always seem over-ambitious.

Been looking at lots of different cars but factoring in size, tax cost, insurance cost, fuel cost, and everything else, I keep looking back to the 2.0 FSI A3.

Thanks :)

FSI, 150hp no turbo. Do you mean FSI or TFSI? TFSI is much better, economy is the same, 50hp more, 110hp more with a £300 remap.

Unfortunately I mean the FSI, the TFSI's are out of my price range unless I get an ex write-off or one with moon-mileage. Plus the insurance is about £200 more for the TFSI.

e; Did just look again and there are some TFSI's in the upper end of my budget, but for now I'm just wondering about the FSI's. :)

I could look at the 1.6's as well I suppose, but whether or not I do depends on the answers to my queries.

I would just say no. There is little point in the FSI non turbo. It will be soulless and slow, and not feel even remotely quick, whilst returning poor mpg. Poorer in fact than the turbo one, because you'll have to wring its neck everywhere to get it to shift.

I would say, if you can't afford the TFSI now, then don't buy the car now. Save a little more and wait. No point in compromising on the engine IMO, not without a reason anyway.

I hear you, and appreciate the input. :)

Although I would argue that while it may feel soul-less and slow to some people, it is less likely to feel that way to me considering the car I would be coming from.

I currently drive a 1.2 Polo 9N, which has 53.6 BHP according the the handbook, I admit that I chuckled a little when you said that I'll have to wring it's neck everywhere to get it to shift. That is true of the Polo, with its 17.9 second 0-60 time, but I still get it to shift, sometimes by welding the pedal to the floor and quick shifting. :p

A 10 second car would be an absolute breath of fresh air and I think the amount of power would be very comfortable for a long while. :)

Also bearing in mind the fact that I will most likely be spending a maximum of £4500, I'd rather get a good example of a 2.0 FSI than a lesser example of a 2.0 TFSI, but as I said before, we shall see what happens. I still need to test drive these, and a few other cars, before I can take any further steps with my decision making.

What of the fuel economy then? You say it is about the same as the TFSI, but in the real world, what does that translate to? I never trust quoted MPG figures from the manufacturer, as so far at least they all seem to be incredibly ambitious. (particularly BMW's figures I have to say)

The 2.0 FSI is also considerably less to insure, and I'm not sure that in the event of a claim, I'd be able to insure the 2.0T because of the increase in insurance cost as a result, whereas the 2.0 FSI non turbo would probably be more manageable. Insurance is a major factor in my choice at my age. (19 w' 1yr NCB)

And was I right in thinking that the engine has to be run on super?

Yeah I saw a 2011 Polo BlueMotion for £5000 which similarly said to email directly.
I emailed the address knowing it was a scam to see what their next move would be, and they mentioned that it was available for delivery only and said something about paying money into some account.

Lol no. :p
