An A3 sport, with the 2.0T engine, which is exactly why I ask. The ride is bad enough as stock. Dropping it further isn't likely to improve that.

Hey mintsadave, how do you find the 2.0T engine? Going to look at an 2005 A3 5dr 2.0 quattro tomorrow, anything I should look out for?

Lovely engine by most accounts.

Its a nice mix of warm/hot hatch power without crazy thirst. I regularly see over 40mpg on my 30 mile commute, I can't understand anyone plumping for the tractor engine unless it's for tax purposes.

I've got the DSG/FWD variant and it pretty easy to wheelspin if the tyre tread is a little low or its wet so I'd go for the Quattro if you don't mind the fuel economy hit.

Not even close, I can get my car sitting on the floor if I wanted, the adjustment range is normally huge.

That much is indeed true, ones designed to improve the handling usually stop sound the 50 - 65mm area, others go much lower.

Here is the A4 3.0 I picked up this week.. all fresh from the detailers.
Its a second car to be used when the weather improves in the winter, but as its an auto and I can fit a child seat in the back, its a lot more practical than the MX-5s I was considering.. the missus couldn't drive the MX-5 so I couldn't justify it really. Its had a new soft top, gearbox rebuild and about 10k worth of other stuff done at the Audi dealer in the last 3 years, so its either going to be fine, or cost me an arm and a leg.. we shall see which!

Badly need some new wheels on it, but other than that I am pretty happy.. there are some very worn switches I should replace and maybe remove the ugly ipod display and controller.
