Audi owners in here!

Not hard to swap over, go double check your revision by physically looking at the units sticker.

I got my updated unit from ebay for £70~

just bought an Audi a3 2.0 tdi on a 53 plate for my first car and loving it, not currently passed my test yet but insured it on a provisional. gaining more experience driving to and from work which is great. but the only car i can compare it too and driven is a 1.4 fiesta which is my learners car. Makes me look forward to work

I'm stuck with who to chose for warranty.

Audi direct quoted me £750 for a year.

Warranty Wise and Warranty Direct both came out at around £360 after a lot of haggling. Both include premature wear & tear cover, main dealer repairs up to £200/h, sensor cover and no excess.

Heard horror stories about both but not sure who to chose? What do you guys think?

Have had an 58 A4 Avant S Line 143 since christmas, after lusting after various Audis for a while. Been pretty happy with it overall. Has been comfortable up and down the M6 but as commented elsewhere the s-line suspension is a tad harsh. Local dealers are gits though if you dont use fixed price servicing or agree up front, I had about 3 quotes for a new key and coding before they agreed to original price they had emailed me!

Trying to find something for a wedding car next year now, was thinking something like a new A8 but seem to be very few and far between.

The experience of the Audi warranty will be immeasurably more pleasureable.

Lets imagine your widgetmathingy goes wrong.

With Audi Warranty:

You book the car into Audi. You arrive and drive away in your Audi loan car. Audi diagnose the fault, order the part and fit it. You collect your car and drive away.

With third party warranty:

You book the car into Audi. You arrive and drive away in your Audi loan car after paying for the insurance. They ask you to authorise £XX of diagnostic work. They find whats wrong with the car. The warranty company then says they want to send an 'inspector' down to 'check'. This takes a few days. He turns up. Audi and the warranty company then have a fight for a few days where the warranty company explores any trivial methods of not paying out. Eventually, after you get involved and have a fight, they give in and pay out. Or they win and do not.

Now I've not used Audi but the above is based on my own experience with BMW - both with BMW warranty (Run by the same people as the Audi one) and a leading nameless third party warranty provider. The third party warranty provided was excellent once, required a fight once, didn't pay for half the work once and outright rejected a legitimate claim based on the most pathetic reasoning ever on one occasion.

Do it properly. Do it with Audi.

Oh the irony...love that Fox is the top poster in an Audi owners thread. Maybe we can convert him, change from BMW to Audi for his next car. :p

I totally fell in love with the RS6 last week. We did an epic road trip. Ferry to Dunkerque -> Gent -> Liege -> Hamburg -> Berlin -> Quedlinburg -> Amsterdam -> Brugges -> Dunkerque. Car full of friends, luggage and junk. 170mph on the autobahn, 5 up. Kept up with some serious machinery along the way.

No regrets so far.

DFDS Seaways?

Be interested to know how this went. What time did you get there before your crossing, how long until you were driving away at the other end etc?

I'm booked on the 12pm in a few weeks time - just wondering how it's going to work logistically :p

I've done it a couple of times now with DFDS. It's completely painless. You're supposed to arrive an hour before departure. The boat always seems to leave on time and we were always off of the boat and on our way within 20 minutes of docking. The only tedious part is the crossing itself, 2 hours of mind numbing boredom. Literally the only thing to do is to get drunk and you can't really do that when you're driving at the other end.

What really surprised me is the lack of any customs checks whatsoever. Aside from the Gendarmerie having a brief check in the boot for illegal immigrants on the way back, I could have had an entire estate car full of contraband.

I've picked it on the way out just for something to try - tunnel on the way back. Not sure I can see a way of not hitting the M25 at rush hour mind, the 1 hour check-in thing is frustrating but I guess I can see why they do it.

I traveled by DFDS January due to SeaFrance going under. I have to say I found them to be a breeze, no fuss at all.

The only downside to me was ending up in Dunkerque rather than Calais putting me 30 or so miles out of the way, but cest la vie, it was cheap.

DFDS do Calais as well now, though I picked Dunkerque as its 30 miles closer to Germany :p

I guess I should post in here!
