Audi owners in here!

Picking up my new A3 S line saloon 1.4 TFSI COD in about 3 weeks time. I am considering the Audi complete servicing and maintenance plan and wondered if anyone has any reviews of this service?
I have been quoted £15 month servicing or £26 month servicing and maintenance inc pretty much every part as far as I can make out.
Obviously £312 a year is a lot of cash but considering a basic service will rush me around £180 + , I am trying to warrant it.

Good choice, I have one too, this forum http://www.audi-sport.net might be of help and there are plenty of video reviews on youtube... My servicing only is under £15 a month and as I only do about 5k a year I have no need for the maintenance option..

guys, looking to get an A4 Avant in the next couple of months. Budget is £10K. Has to be diesel as I do a fair amount of milage. At that budget I'm looking at 58/59 plate examples so is there anything to look out for problem wise? I'd prefer the 170bhp version but will settle for the 140.

Think I asked this earlier in the thread.

When I spoke to Audi/VW techs they recommended the turbo diesels over any petrol equivalent due to reliability. Under no circumstances was I to buy a TFSI, especially having previously experienced a rebuild situation with one.

I'm interested in hearing any stories from owners, though.

As far as I've seen the 2.0TFSI is far more reliable than the TDI. Obviously their are fewer TFSIs around but the TDIs commonly have injector and turbo issues.

Apparently those TFSIs burn oil at an alarming rate and often require rebuilds due to worn piston rings, valve seals etc. I don't know the technicalities, I was just recommended against them.

My current 2.0 TFSI is a previous gen (2006) and I've not had the best of times with it but for different reasons. Its not a massive oil burner, though...unless somethings wrong.

After the cylinder head cracking issues on the BKD engines and then the injector failure debacle on the 170PS version, I'd hardly call their TDI engines uber-reliable.

Thanks for the info! Car has now arrived in the UK so looking forward to picking it up. I am going to be doing around the 12-13k a year so might sort out the main package for peace of mind.

Apparently it affected all 2 litre TFSI units in A3's, A4'S A5's etc from 2007 - 2012. I just picked up an A3 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI on a 13 plate for my wife and made sure i asked 2 different technicians about the issue before purchase. Both of them mentioned something about a 2011 block (can't confirm or find any info on that) but this car does not have that apparently, time will tell
The other interesting thing i did pick up is that TFSI and any other direct injection engine can suffer from carbon build up on valves which will reduce efficiency. This is due to no fuel passing over the valves and washing deposits off???

Yup all direct injection engines have this problem. But diesels clog up the EGR system similarly.

Not sure how much direct injection dpearls suffer from intake valve deposits but can't see why'd they be immune.

Let us know how you get on with it!

Heres a link to a recent BBC Radio 4 article regarding the excessive oil burning issue.

Thanks for posting. Pretty much sums up what I'd been told previously - avoid.

The Audi service options are expensive, the equivalent package on the 1 Series is half that. Why do Audi charge so much?

With Ford it was £25 a month for servicing only on my Focus. What mileage and servicing intervals is the BMW based on, mine is a yearly service, is it for newcars and includes the first mot?

Two year service package on my A6 is £299. That is certainly not expensive.

It is when a 5 year service package on a 5 Series is £525.

A 2 year service package on an Audi would cover as little as 1 service which makes £300 seem quite steep.

Only applies from new...it is more than that if you buy it after the 60 day period after ordering. Audi offer 3-5 years free servicing on most models from new if you push them.

How much is an inspection service on a BMW 520d? if you bought it a year old?

EDIT:

Series 1 BMW 5 year service plan: £425.
Audi A1 flexible 5 year service plan: £289.

No, it includes two services, not one. One inspection and one interim service. It is actually cheaper than having a 2 year service schedule which is £309, strangely. (they will also price match any independent in the area as well, this includes parts and tyres etc)
