Audi owners in here!

Just No. What next each trim level is a different "car"?

Yes a facelift is a minor upgrade - but it's still not a new car. On the whole most facelift parts can be applied to a pre-facelift car if you are that way inclined (not that the cost is normally worth it).
Yea. It's a minor upgrade for sure.

A few more thoughts on the A4:

1) No auto dimming rear view mirror as standard?! That's inexcusable Audi.

2) The electronic parking brake is not automatically controlled. You have to manually engage and disengage it which seems very backwards for a brand new model.

3) The standard S-Line seats (cloth) are very comfortable, despite being completely manual.

4) I've got used to the size of it quite quickly, although front parking sensors would help to keep my heart rate down.

5) The Drive Select buttons are too far away from the driver. It wouldn't bother me too much in a TDI, but it would annoy me in an S4.

I really, really like this car...

EDIT: I may be wrong about the rear view mirror. Darker conditions are required.

You can easily check with a torch. If it doesn't have a lever on it then I'd wager its automatic chromatic fantastic.

Audi gave me an S5 Black Edition to test over the weekend, they're available on very tempting deals as it's soon to be an even older model than it is already. :p

As it's something like the 7th revision, I was expecting it to feel really dated and quite poor, but it's actually not bad, relatively pleasant and refined, though not to the level of the new A6 I tried recently. The engine sounds very good, as you'd expect, less artificial than the tweaked 2 litre ones I've driven lately.

Handling is a bit hit and miss, it's not bad by any means but it doesn't feel as dynamic as it probably should, it's definitely more of a cruiser than a sports car, and it's good at that.

And oddly, the Sportback doesn't give you a 5th seat like a 4 series Gran Coupe does. The Sportback design has grown on me a bit though, it's like a mini A7.

Are you trying to be King Tyre Kicker or something?! You've had pretty much everything ever on 'extended test drive', how did you manage it?

I've never even had cars I've actually BOUGHT on extended test drives let alone stuff I've no intention of buying!

Extended test drives are good really, you can't get a proper feel for the car otherwise. I'm not exactly sure what I want either, so it's worth testing out a few different cars. Prices/deals will also be a factor. I've explained this to the various dealers and they don't seem to mind at all.

For travelling in comfort, the 5 series is still top of the list by some margin, even over the new A6.

Audi wouldn't give me an S4 on an extended test drive even if I had a hair cut, a shave, and donned a suit. :p

You need to bypass the generic new/used car sales guys and speak to a person who deals with business contracts etc, they have a lot more flexibility.

You are also incorrect about the handbrake as it will automatically disengage. I had one for a day but the sports suspension, unlike the sport susension on my a3 saloon, was far too harsh and I was constantly looking out for cracks and holes in the road so I could avoid them. I think the facelifted a3 will be a be a better bet. Oh and another thing, the a3 has a new 7-gear stronic gearbox and the 2.0l tfsi 190ps engine is going to be carried over from the a4 and the 1.8 discontinued...

I'll test it again tomorrow, but I did try it today and it didn't disengage. I only pushed the accelerator a small amount since I wasn't sure if it would work, and the car has multiple stickers on it stating that it has "advanced telematics" which makes me a bit nervous.
