Audi owners in here!

I've got a pretty standard S-Line A3, 2.0TDI 150 manual (64 plate). I can tell you this - I wouldn't buy another one. I'd sooner be considering a 3 series, GTD golf or similar. The A3 is overpriced, doesn't have particularly great residuals any more and the tech is behind the competition (don't care if it has virtual cockpit, BMW's connected drive wipes the floor with it).

I thought it had the same back seats as the hatchback?

It's literally the same car but with a boot instead of a hatch

No panel on the saloon is shared with hatch, but as far as dimensions are concerned, yes bigger but not enough to matter that much...

Kind of why I ended up with the Leon. Just couldn't justify the extra cost.

No, I believe he is saying that he got 80-90% of the experience (and build quality) for less outlay, and couldn't justify the extra for the A3 over equivalent platform cars from other brands.

Yes the A3 feels more premium, heck it IS more premium, and does have some nice technologies available, but you pay through the nose for optional extras, especially on PCP whereby the addition of an optional extra rarely increases the GFV.

It's why I'm not in an S-Line, an S-Line with the spec of my car would have been a good £3000+ in options, I chose to forgo the 27" wheels and bodykit so I could have a better specced car, I spend time inside it, not looking at it. In an ideal world I'd have both, but it simply wasn't an option at the time (in budget).

In looking around for new cars, i felt that Audi still, certainly for the bigger cars, still have the edge in quality feel. The Passat and Superb, werent a patch on the A4/A6 in terms of interior feel and quality, lots of drab hard scratchy plastics, they felt very austere inside, and the specs arent so different in reality. I also looked at the new Tiguan (yeah i know :() and considering the list price, its no better than a Nissan X-Trail inside!

So yes i'd rather go for an Audi, if i can afford it, over the rest of the VAG stable, as certainly with VW the cost cutting is clear, and Skoda arent as bargain basement choice they once were. Cant comment on the Seat range. Infact i'd go as far as saying i cant ever see myself in a Vw, as currently they are the over priced brand within the VAG group imo.

A 3 Series isn't the A3's direct competitor though - a 1 Series is. The 3 Series is an A4 rival, and an A4 is half a step up on the A3 in terms of quality.

Personally I don't think the A3 feels that much more "premium" - yes they are more "premium" than a Focus or an Astra, but compared to an A4, or especially an A6, they are no where near as "premium".

But he isn't comparing an A3 to A4/6, he is comparing to Golf / Leon / Octavia, where the A3 is the more "premium" product.

Maybe not, but the difference between a Golf or Octavia and A3 in terms of "premium" feel in my opinion is something like 5% better (I.e. not worth getting too concerned over), an A4 probably 25% better than an A3, and an A6 would be even more still.

Nah, there's a notable difference between an Octavia/Leon and an A3, having tried all of them (and the Golf) over the last 12 months.

Granted the Octavia and Leon are nicer than say, a Focus, but that's mainly down to design rather than materials.

Better then a audi you say?

If I was you I really would not get into a conversation here about buying the car of your choice. Although the advice in this thread is well intended it is alll about your choice not what somebody 'thinks' you should have.
At the end of the day it is your money and if you are happy to spend it on your choice then go for it.
If you want other advice about the car I suggest you go to a audi related forum such as audi-sport.net

I just picked up a bargain audi TT convertible which I couldn't say no to, didn't come with a stereo or for that matter any windows, any recommendations?

I'd hardly call it ruined, it's well low mileage, it was in my local facebook group as part of a house/garage sale, was too cheap to pass up

Just giving it a good clean and I'll post some photos
