Audi owners in here!

What are the current recommend options and engine sizes on a A3? As the parentals in there infinite wisdom have gone and ordered and new one, even though they where interested in looking at a Q3 / CX-3 / Qashqai etc...

As far as i know they have ordered the A3 Sport 1.4 TFSI model and I am yet to find out any more details.

The new 1.4 TFSI with Cylinder on Demand (COD) is actually a very good petrol, pulls like a larger engine and is very frugal to boot.

I'd take one over the 1.0 3-cylinder (though it does make a nice noise), and I'd take one over the 1.6TDi also. The new 190PS 2.0 TFSI is lovely, but not cheap. The 2.0 TDI is as it always was, fine, but nothing special.

What's MMI Paragdigm?

Hey Fox, the sarcasm is dripping out you mate :)

But, it does show the difference between a normal car user and an enthusiast. I doubt I would have checked the make of the tyres, just the tread depth!

So, my hunt continues!!!

MMI is the proper infotainment system, that's not only sat nav, but also properly integrated into the car (for displaying things like visual parking sensor information), as well as with more varied input options, a larger, higher resolution display, and far more user friendly controls by the gear stick, rather than behind the gear stick, above the climate controls.

The non-MMI system is essentially the old RNS system (2001 onwards) system that was rehashed to look like MMI.

Ah that's good news, as they seem quiet happy with it. The full spec breakdown from what I have been told is the following:

A3 Sportback S line 1.4 TFSI CoD - S tronic
Daytona grey, pearl effect
Privacy glass
Heated front seats
Door mirrors (folding)
Advanced key
Bang & Olufsen sound system
Adaptive Cruise Control including Pre-sense Front with pedestrian recognition

Is anything else recommended?

I'd have added technology pack (or tech pack advanced) to that, but otherwise, no, its a nice well rounded spec. Hill hold might be worth having also, as its only £75.

When you say "they seem quite happy with it", does that mean they have it already? In which case it'll be a stock car and likely a prefacelift, that WOULD be a mistake right now.

I think it's a fairly important point - you don't need the absolute latest in ultra high performance tyre but you don't want a car somebody has skimped on and frankly utterly no-name Chinese tyres are the very definition of cutting corners on maintenance.

Find a nicely looked after example where 'the lowest possible cost' hasn't been the owners maintenance goal.

I bet the rest of the car reflects the previous owners attitude...

I've been told its the new model out and they collect next month, I will ask about the hill hold option.

How can you tell its a face lift?

Thank you for the assistance.

So in a surprise move I have ordered an S3.

Was going to go down the route of a Golf R when I discovered I could get the audi for the same money. In the end it came down to a better part/ex on my current car from Audi.

No idea on lead time, but any idea how long before my spec is locked and can't be changed?

You've got at least a few weeks I believe. Mines still not locked yet, and is scheduled to build on the 11th October!

Ok, so i have some time. Thanks.

Trying to work out if i should add 19s. Im happy with the rest of the spec but im worried im going to regret the wheels.

The 19s look good but i dont think the car needs them and the ride is firm enough as standard.

Just bear in mind that if you haven't ordered a saloon then you not only have to pay for the 19" upgrade, but you also need magnetic ride in order to spec 19s.

The saloon is better value, assuming you can get away with the less practical body shape.

You can however fit 19"s later without the need for mag ride.

Ive gone for the hatch (as i need more access to the boot), but ive picked the mag ride. Yeah i can always add the wheels later... im just used to always picking the upgraded wheel option. This is the first time i felt the money was better spent elsewhere.

Just need it built now :D

I've got an Audi S4 MY10 (B8 platform) that has unfortunately developed a fault. The drivers door will no longer unlock using the remote fob. Inserting the key in to the door works fine and will lock / unlock all doors but on the fob it will only lock all doors / unlock the 3 passenger doors.

Has anyone else's suffered this, or know of someone who has? I've heard it might be the main door controller or perhaps the sensors on the lock causing it to think that door is always unlocked..

I've also had to replace the central locking button as my partner broke it (its on the door) and now it won't tell me if the car is locked or not (no red light); do these have to be coded if you change them?

I've got someone with vag software coming on Wednesday to fault find but curious to know if anyone else has had this issue.
