Audi owners in here!

The lower image has MMI 3G Plus (indicated by the joystick on the top of the large wheel).

Top one has MMI 3G, with no 3D mapping, and a lower resolution display.

Is there that much of a difference between the two?

Mechanically, the cars appear the same. I'm not hugely bothered about having the quattro. For the use it will get FWD will be fine and higher mpg I would expect.
 
It depends entirely on what you want out of the infotainment system. MMI 3G basic doesn't have jukebox, so you can't import mp3s etc onto the system itself, but both allow playback from SD card. Plus also allows Bluetooth music sources and wifi music sources.

As said before the display resolution on Basic is awful, really disappointingly so for a 2012 car, my silver a4 had basic, my 2013 has Plus, for me it was night and day difference.

On a diesel estate that you are wanting high MPG out of, I'd have the newer non Quattro car I think.

You can also easily retrofit google maps integration into the MMI 3G Plus .

Well that was a nice surprise, checked my online portal this morning to check that the order had an amended spec, low and behold my build date has moved forwards two weeks at the same time :)

How exciting - I do tend to find with Audi they under promise and over deliver when it comes to build dates - right way to do it as no danger of disappointment!

Absolutely get the better MMI, the basic one is horrible. I have a TDIe 136ps avant, and that comfortably returns 55mpg on motorway runs, even hammering it it easily give 47mpg. Ive had it as high as 63 on run up to scortland, but that was driving like a Nun!

For comparison, with the same engine, in runs around town involving lots and lots of roundabouts and bad country roads, it'll manage 42mpg with the wife driving and 46 with me driving.
Again motorway burning it'll happily do 55, but we do little of that now.


What tyres are people putting on A4s, I've all 4 needing replaced soon, when the fronts needed replaced after very few miles I was a bit surprised, again blaming roundabouts and country roads.
I put on Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 225/50 R17 W (98), Reinforced.

What else would people suggest? Rears made it to 31K and will do a bit longer, fronts probably need replaced in 1-2K, probably all within 3K.
 
Had no problems with contisport contacts on my 136PS TDIe. The rears are now on 38,000. I've had one new set of fronts about 10,000 ago.

And fwiw, mine has averaged 55MPG over its lifetime, motorway runs regularly see me get above 70MPG.

I'm not hugely bothered about MPG (I'm thinking of going silly for a year before another oil burner) It's just I have a non-quattro B7 TDI 170 and have never felt I was missing something by it only being FWD.

I've never really understood the benefits of 4wd on cars like this having driven them - my last experience was a 420d xDrive and it just seemed to make everything a little worse for no real benefit other than 'well if I wake up one day and it's like Canada I can get to work with unstoppable grip'.

If you've got 300bhp then its another story..

I don't really get it either. I think 98% of the time it is not required. My colleague has Xdrive on his 420i...the whole car feels dog slow.

Even on my TT, I find FWD good in most situations. It really only struggles for traction if the tyres are cold, specifically when in first gear and putting your foot down. It can also get a bit twitchy in certain situations but overall, I don't miss quattro as much as I thought I would.

The difference I notice most is traction in wet weather conditions, even though my old TT was just a 2.0 TDI. It is handy being able to floor it even in heavy rain and still able to put power down.

Aye clearly lots of the wife going round roundabouts makes the massive difference. Motorway nice straight roads no matter the speed seems to take nothing from tyres nowadays, and those things are just made to much miles up when sitting at constant speed. Quite impressive.

The original contis are still on the rear tyres, over 30K on them, even with the roundabouts, but the original fronts just seemed to get eaten up, the goodyears have lasted better, and will still do a while, but as winter approaches I'd rather put some fresher rubber on, gets very wet here, constantly wet roads, so it'll have to be sorted in next 4-6 weeks I think.
