Audi owners in here!

Does anyone know roughly what the hire purchase APR is on a new order and Approved Used purchase?

It'll depend on what model you go for. A new A8 might have a much lower APR than a new A1. In my experience though, a new car from somewhere like Audi or BMW might have an APR of around 4-5%, and a second hand one around 10-11%. But this may change from model to model.

Cheers, I was hoping that someone had got an HP quote recently for a new and/or used B9 A4. 10-11% is just madness, but I don't know how easy it'll be to get a personal loan for the ~£17k I need since I've never applied for one.

EDIT: Called the dealer and they can't give me the APR for an Approved Used car on HP because the campaign is changing in October and I'm not buying right now :(

Hello guys,

I need a bigger car and have just come back from having a look around a few cars and the Audi A5 is now at the top of my list for wanting next. The interior is absaloutly lovely, great feel to it and a decent enough sized boot.

I know nothing about Audis though. What do i need to look for in the A5? Petrol Engine wise and spec? What sound systems to look out for? I do love a bit of bass.

Newer 3.0T (actually supercharged) engine would be the one to go for. That'll be an S5, and is the equivalent of a 335i Coupe. Bose or B&O for the sound system.

But as it'll be a 3 series equivalent, I fail to see how it would be much bigger than your 3 series?

As above, if you don't want a 2.0TFSI (230PS) then you have to get an S5 (only >4cyl petrol in the A5 range, other than the RS5). Worth noting that early S5 would be the V8, which whilst they sound lovely, they aren't as good as the later V6T.

The best sound system is B&O, however the Audi Sound System is a worthy upgrade of the standard system, though unless you're going for a poverty spec SE, I doubt many will have anything lower than Audi SS.

Hello, i should have mentioned my budget is around £12k. An S5 or RS5 would be lovely but that would mean selling my soul to the devil and getting finance.

Seems the best i would be looking at is etiher the 3.2 which i know is a very lazy lump if it is the same engine that is in the older shape A4 or the 2.0T quattro.

Only just realised Audis are FWD if they arnt quattro, i thought they was all RWD as standard.

My car has a tiny boot and it is too low for what i am using it for now. Also i am never getting use out of the convertible bit of it.

If i was to get the A5 it'll be the 5dr version. Mrs is 20weeks gone and i have took fishing up. So the extra boot space, doors and fold down seats would be pretty much perfect for me. Also the car is a quite bit higher than mine < odd i know but some of the fishing ponds i go to have terrible tracks and my car just scrapes all the way down them.

I know, i know... get a land rover or something if i want to get chucking fishing stuff in there. I either want to stick to a premium 5dr big car or a hot hatch with a decent boot and rear space which means i may have to sacrifice the rear doors. Thing are never so simple with me :p

I'd take an A4 Avant over an A5 Sportback, I found the boot space was deceptively unusable due to the shape of the rear, yes it's more usable than the saloon A4 or coupe A5, but nowhere near the usability of the Avant.

Why even look at the A5 when the A4 Avant is the obvious choice with your new usage profile? Sure, the A5 may "look" a little "sportier", but you have a baby on the way, and a hobby requiring space in your transportation. The estate is the better tool for the job surely? And modern, German estates are hardly terrible lookers.

What are my options regarding updating my B7 A4 to a later Avant with a petrol engine and manual box? And something that isn't terribly slow.

I've sort of bottled it on the RS4 front (last one I tested its average mpg was 6 and that's probably something that will get tedious real quick) so I'm thinking of updating the B7 and having a toy for weekends.

I could go with a diesel although I don't do the miles. I also do lots of short journeys so the DPF will have to come off.

If you do opt for a B8, just ensure that it's got MMI and not simply the radio that looks an it like MMI.

Don't bother with the 1.8TFSI. 2.0TFSI is ok, though earlier ones could have oil pump/pickup problems. Is an S4 in budget? The V6T is a peach.

So I thought I would post this in here to get some sage advice from people in the know with modern Audi's.

I have 2 A4's in the past. A 1998 A4 Saloon and a 2003 A4 Avant. I enjoyed both but now in the market for something bigger (I think).

I currently have a Ford Mustang which due to being targetted by local scum has been relegated to a weekend toy due to fear of more vandalism and I have decided that I need a daily so going to get rid of it and go back to the brands I have had before.

I was looking at A4 and A6 options and the A6 is currently winning on paper for me with more standard kit and the current offers seem like a good deal.

Is there anything specific I need to look out for? Any options/packs that are a must have?

Currently looking at an A6 Avant 2.0Tdi Ultra Manual. I considered going Quattro and Auto but the Mrs won't drive an auto and that puts Quattro out of the equation.

Current best price I have is just shy of £10k off list through Carwow which I am challenging the local dealer to match.

For the Mustang I have asked them for price on trade in but they seem to be low balling as its too specialist. Hoping for a call back today from Ford for a price for them to buy back. I don't fancy selling privately as I don't have the time to be messing around with test pilots and hopefuls as have a busy few weeks ahead and I don't mind losing a bit for convenience.

Are you talking SE, S Line or Black Edition with those quotes there?

You really REALLY want to get her to try an S Tronic before committing to getting the manual, a manual box is not the right fit for the A6.

Sorry forgot that bit. That is for S line trim.

I want to get her to try the S Tronic but she is adamant she doesn't want to. I could get it anyway and she can try it after bit always a worry she won't drive it ever if I do that.

If I go S Tronic is Quattro worth it? I live in the flattest part of the UK and have never needed 4wd before. I test drove an S Tronic Quattro A4 last weekend and I liked it but the Mrs didn't even want to try.

I posted a little while back about the differences with the MMI. I can spot the differences now.

It's tricky finding a manual petrol black edition avant with the full MMI

I would go for an S4 but the B8s are in budget (the sad eyed ones) but the 8.5s seem much more expensive. There's a really nice one of RS246 in sprint blue that I'd not be unhappy with :)

I've tended to discount S4 as I imagined them to have similar running costs to RS but not actually being an RS4.

Mid 30s mpg is fine and the odd 4 figure bill is fine but single figure mpg and 4 figure bills being the baseline, I just don't know if I can tolerate that from a daily.

I'd have said no, not really. For most occasions you won't notice the difference, and it introduces more mechanical losses, so barring full-bore wet launches the FWD will be fine.

I got the Mrs to try an S Tronic before I bought the S3, and she's converted now!

I'd not worry about getting a BE, you can always fit the styling parts at a later date (or get them painted), so long as the car has the kit you want.

As for the S4, mechanically there is little difference between the B8 and the B8.5, but I agree, the facelift is the better looking car. They aren't particularly frugal, my mate averaged high-teens in his S5 convertible.

Is that based on gut feeling? Has anyone tried the manual and auto? I'm trying to sort a test drive of manual this week before making a decision and Mrs has agreed to test an Auto.

My manual A3 is bad enough, let alone a barge like the A6. It feels like a boat from the inside and in my eyes a manual A6 completely defeats the point of the relaxed aspect of the car.
