Those of you with Virtual Cockpit, what's it like at night? I've tried finding reviews, and even images, but they are few and far between.

Just had a concern at the back of my mind that VC might be a bit glare inducing in the dark...

Any images, or even a video would be great.

Auto dim is one thing, but usability in comparison with a relativley low lit set of mechanical dials is another, still surprised there have been no night time reviews.

The S4 is STILL in the garage. They told me 2 days ago the clutch was changed, but it also needed a clutch cylinder, too. They changed that and called me today saying that something isn't right as it's still not engaging gears and they'd need to investigate more.

FFS. Shoot me now.

uh huh, no doubt. We will see what they say tomorrow. If they can work it out then anyway.

Would this by any chance be due to the garage not having a clue what they're talking about? The main reason I've started doing car repairs myself now is because it seems as if there isn't a single garage in France who can manage anything more complicated than an oil change on a Renault Clio. Even my Jaguar main dealer washed my car in direct sunlight, and didn't dry it, making it look 10x worse than when I gave it to them, and wanted to charge me €28 per day for the use of their Ford Fiesta courtesy car....

I do have my fears about the Audi networks ability to diagnose and fix issues, certainly based on my recent experiences. I am concerned they have fixed and rigid processes and if at the end of these nothing is located they are a bit lost. My R8 went in 3 times for them to look at the knocking noise I had coming from the rear offside of the car. The first time it was very intermittent and after roughly 10 days I told them I would take it back an monitor it after they admitted they were stumped after trying many different things, so they tell me. It then began to become more prominent and I took it back and asked them to investigate further and after another week they were unable to locate the issue and with summer holidays getting in the way I agin took the car back. Then about 3 weeks back I gave it them again on a Monday with a clear instruction that I would not take the car back until it was fixed. I followed this up by emailing the DP of the group, who got back to me in 30 minutes to be fair. All along it was totally civilised and the DP was fair but I made it clear I wanted it fixed or at the very worst, clearly diagnosed that week. He agreed and got involved and do you know what, in 3 days it was found and fixed, but did involve them effectively taking the rear end apart, rebuilding it and setting it back to factory settings. The issue, as I felt and actually as did Gibbo after I took him out was a strut at the rear end. The car is now perfect.

This left me with the feeling, rightly or wrongly that they had done some work, but hadn't really done what they should have done until I got my toys fully out the pram and told them the car was coming back their way for a full refund. It shouldn't take that, I get that these sorts of issues are a pain but I expect any car, perhaps even more so (wrongly I know) their halo car it should be done with maximum effort off the bat.

How does it deal with sunlight glare, can you still see virtual dials?

Better than normal dials. :)

In this video you can see there is no loss of clarity, the virtual cockpit stays very clear and easy to see. It is a good 10cm or so set back so usually kept in the shade and the screen is not glossy but pretty much a matte finish.

Yea heard about this a couple of weeks back. I think the R8 needs the V10 for the event and sheer noise. I can't see this having that, but I can see it being tuned to silly numbers and in the end being quicker, but NA V10 is where I want to be as it's for me a big part of the appeal of the car, certainly in the Plus version. I never bonded with the V8, great but always underwhelmed and frankly the early V10 I drove was a bit similar, but more special no question. The Plus however deals with that and adds event and feel that the previous ones lacked a little. I think the current model with standard steering and fixed suspension would be fantastic, if hard to find.

Q - If the noise an engine makes can be made to sound the same, be it simulated through pipes or electronics, does it matter where the sound comes from? [It's still simulated]

It's not just about the sound. I actually dislike processes noise on any engine, but it's the way of modern cars. Trip too Goodwood Revival reminded me what proper V8's sound like and proper V12's.

Nice, congrats! :D

Don't forget to post pics! You know... while it is still clean :p

Thanks :) Just drove it home a good 200 miles so it's given me a chance to get properly acquainted, and yep it's filthy :p

2015 MK3 TT S-Line Quattro, main thing that drew me to this particular car was the spec. Tech and comfort pack, and a couple of other bits and bobs.

I'm blown away by it though, such a nice drive. Solid, have to be careful as doing 100 doesn't feel like it, could easily do much more. I was initially a bit wary of driving an automatic but it's changed my opinion of them, it's super lazy, especially when driving in stop/start traffic.

I'll post some pics when I get chance, but initial pros/cons;

Pros

- The gadgetry is awesome, the navigation is awesome, the sound system is awesome
- The steering wheel and multimedia controls, and system in general is very easy to use. Everything seems logical.
- Drive is very tight, plenty quick enough. Performance is very similar to my current car (soon to be sold Z4 3.0si coupe) but the power delivery is obviously totally different - Turbo Vs Straight 6.
- The grip definitely fills you with confidence
- The interior is a thing of beauty. Having things like the aircon controls on the vents is a nice touch. The trim and badges for the Bang and Olufsen subtly lights up in a non chavvy way, which is also a nice touch.

Cons

- The heating control is mad, set to 21c and in no way was the air being pushed around room temperature - much colder.
- The seats didn't feel the most comfortable after a 5 hour drive (do look great though)

All in all very happy, doubt i'll be happy with the upkeep but that's the price you pay for a black car.

Seems odd, granted a different car, but my A4 hasn't been moved from 20.5ºc since I bought it, never feels too cold or too hot.

Was the system in auto mode?

Yeah set to Auto and 21 degrees.

It's not a big deal, just set the temperature a couple of degrees higher than you really want but it's obviously not right, unless i'm doing something wrong somewhere.

Glad you're happy with it!

I second the comments about the B&O system, very impressive and well worth the money.

Again, different car, but I set mine to Auto, then turn the AC to OFF unless I need it... Sort of 'modified auto' haha. Find that works well around 21 degrees then.
