I wouldn’t be replacing DPF or plugs until there was reason to. Certainly worth getting some figures for how clogged the DPF is before even remotely thinking about it.

-edit - when do suspension and engine mount bushes start to wear out?

Had a few issues with the S5 over the weekend
Started sounding a tad off and the fans were making very odd noises. Then was coming back from a swim and got an engine warning light and a message saying start-stop feature disabled.
I called my local Audi dealer who said lets book in it, but we can't see you till 10th if you're not bothered about a loaner, or if you do need one I would have to wait till the end of the month.
I wasn't happy with this response but didn't think there was much else I could do. I went looking on Audi forums and seems its a common issue. Electronic thermostat sticking open. Few people said they just called Audi Roadside Assistance and they will look after you better.
Within 1 hour of calling them, I had a guy looking at the car. He used to work at an Audi dealer for a few years and said he's seen loads of em. The part has to come from Germany, will be off the road for a week.
He was going to follow me to my dealer and drive me back but it was Saturday afternoon and they had closed, so he arranged for a loan car and flatbed is coming on Monday to pick up the S5.
Its the first bit of trouble I've had with the car in just over 2 years of ownership and around 38,000 miles so cant grumble too much. The loaner was through Enterprise, they given me a low spec E series. (220D). 1 day of driving that thing and I can't wait to get back in mine. It's a horrible thing. Terrible engine, The interior just feels cheap, fake metal everywhere and loads of piano plastic. The stereo is very poor as well. It must be a very low spec as Id heard nothing but good things about the e series.

I'm planning on looking at / test driving a 12 month old C8 A6 S-Line tomorrow. Anything I should pay particular attention to?
It's the 3.0 V6 Diesel with tech pack and nappa leather. I ideally also wanted the touring pack but seems to be non-existent.

Talk to me. My commute is a daily 70 mile round trip, plus a couple of trips to Poland each year. My local Audi specialist tells me to get the S6 as the RS6 running costs aren't worth it (even though he drives an RS6 himself, but lives 2 miles from the garage

Definitely this. I’ve had one since new for about 13 months and it’s a bit clunky at low speeds but fast once you get it going.
Not the best driving experience.

Probably down to Audi's gearbox map inducing delay...
I've heard similar which makes it all the more strange as its the same box in the 530d which has no hint of the same issue

I don’t think it’s the gearbox as it does it when locked in manual, the new S4 is just as bad which is surprising as it has an electric supercharger which you would have thought would help. I wouldn’t say the 530d has no hint it has an annoying delay low down although no where near as bad as the new Audi 3L engines.
I wonder if they are starting to reach the limits of what a single turbo can do without excessive lag on the 3l diesels. Maybe related to the engines having to actually meet the rated emissions.

Darn, my haldex is playing up and I’ve also got something overheating it seems in the engine bay in the area of the s-tronic.

Service history is a must above all really. They're solid cars as long as they are serviced properly. If the gearbox service hasn't been done by Audi or a decent independent at the 38k intervals I'd run away. The V8s prior to the 3.0 supercharged units were notorious for coking up, but you say it has an uprated pulley which suggests the 3.0 supercharged power unit which is great as they are massively understressed units. A S/C pulley, a breathier airbox and a remap will easily put them into 4 seconds 0-60 times without really putting any stress on the running gear and can be had from a reputable Audi tuner for £1,500 max. As to the sunroof, that could be a costly affair but I guess it depends on how often you open it. I would personally favour a non-functional sunroof just because it makes the interior of the car feel much airer. You never know, you may get lucky and the runners just need a decent greasing - a burnt out motor or similar is going to be expensive though.
With the Audi Drive Select, this can be 'enabled' with a £20 adapter from Amazon. In fact there are loads of options you can enable through software on VAG cars, but if the car wasn't factory optioned with the magnetic steering and adaptive dampers (i.e. the hardware to interface with the software), it's a total waste of time as all it will do is control the volume of the piped in engine noise.
I just dumped my 2015 S5 for this hilarious financial burden that people seem compelled to park their ****boxes right up against in empty car parks. Three weeks in and the dashcam is like 48 hours worth of footage of me laughing like an idiot.
