Audi owners in here!

Any real as to why you want to go for an 8P3 170? They hold a huge premium on a now old platform. Think you would be missing the power of the petrol personally!

The 8P arm rest is a real joke and a complete after thought! I like having one but I've adjusted and it's easy enough to use eventually!

They are in budget, an 8V1 isn't, unless I do finance, I don't like owing people anything :)

The only other car that really appeals to me is a 330ci E46 but it would have to be really low mileage, grey, red interior, can't find any suitable. Running cost isn't great either.

It's a hire car.

It just seems awkward really, it's like someone designed it without sitting behind the wheel.

At a guess, given the arm rest is an option, it was designed without an arm rest in mind, and then they added that afterwards.

Client lent me her A5 coupe for an hour on Friday.

3.0TDI SLine Black Edition. Really nice car and very much a head turner. Big coupes aren't really my thing and the doors felt oddly heavy. Was cool drving it about for a bit.

Wasn't really serious about buying an A5 but yesterday I cleared all the leaves from the driveway and filled my A4 Avant with 9 bags of leaves. Just took one look at the car and remembered why I'd probably never buy an A5 coupe :)

No, is there any real point to an A3 Saloon? If I was to buy an A3 Saloon I would just buy an A4. I think Audi are getting a bit silly, what will be next, an R8 Saloon?

The A3 saloon probably won't sell very well in the UK because the preference here is for hatchbacks. But I can assure you that the sales in other countries are starting to outstrip supply as there is now up to a four week delay because of early demand...

Does look quite smart I have to agree, I also quite like the 'estate wannabe' look of the sportback too, and in that brown colour.

I think I may officially be getting old :(

The trouble with the sportback is that, from the side, it looks like an estate but without the space. Put roof rails on it though and it definitely looks like an estate, again without the space. Personally I think it lacks identity and is too similar to the 8P for it too stand out.

Think it was one of the Audi promo shots in that dark blue colour, sort of side on with roof rails that I saw that made me think yeah it looks nice.

But I know what you mean, it looks like an estate, but isn't.

Thats typical for a new car, every new car I have ever had has had a factory delay of 4-12 weeks.

It does look nice the A3 Saloon, but I just cant see why you would buy it if the A4 saloon exists, the B8 A4 isnt exactly a big car.

I suspect it will do very well in emerging markets, very well.

Nah, they were available early on, unless you wanted a 5 door.

Yes the Sportback was available from early this year but the three door was late last year. Got mine in October on a '62 plate - over a year old already!

I the old 8P on a '13 plate is via a leasing company, I suspect they got a ridiculously good deal on it. And yes, the handbrake/armrest design/juxtaposition in the 8P was utterly stupid. The armrest was also far too high up IMO - I ended up only using it on long motorway trips as it got in the way of my elbow when changing gear. The one in the 8V is miles better.

Not having looked at prices, I'd assume it's cheaper for a start so, if you don't need anything bigger...

Also, the A4 is seriously getting on now so if you're not in a position to wait for the next model then the A3 is far more up to date.

Finally, if the pedals in the A4 were any more offset, they'd be outside the car. Seriously - the clutch pedal is actually in line with the steering column. I wouldn't have a manual A4 if you paid me.

Agreed completely, it has been up since the first time I put the handbrake on and then whacked my elbow putting it in reverse!

It's being picked up this afternoon :( I'm going to miss it, it's been a lovely car to lash round in.

Strange as my last two cars had no delay, neither did our new Fiesta. However my source comes directly from Audi. I had a build date of week 46 from the factory, it now could be up to week 50. The A4 is too old now, I want a car that is up to date and not too common with a fresh interior. The saloon also doesn't share any body panels with the sportback. It has a bigger cabin, wider track, wheelbase and sits lower on the road. Oh and has a larger boot with the seats up, no I do not wish to carry washing machines around either..

Not sure what you mean by uptodate, the MMI is the same, and the new A3 has the current A4 engines. Seats are the same, the only the A3 has different is the inferior tacky pop up screen.

The saloon just screams Im on a crap company car scheme,I wanted an A4/3 series but im not high enough in my company. I cant see any reason why anyone would buy a Diesel Audi with their own money, aside from the asthetics they dont really do anything special, ie an average chassis, average engines but nice twinkly lights. That all changes if its a quattro with a decent petrol engine.

The best thing about an A4 is the 3.0tdi engine and gearbox, not the Multitronic belt gearbox all 2.0's come with, so it would be Auto anyway!
