Aurora Borealis red alert for the Uk tonight.

Had a good view here in Rutland. To start off we went out of town and I captured this

After a while a few other people turn up having had the same idea

It did seem to the fading so I decided to head back home. But as I got home I saw the colours exploding above so I headed straight into the back garden

Oh man I live in Rutland and missed it all! Absolutely gutted.

This on the outskirts of Oakham?

Dayymmm, What exposure length did you use it to achieve that?
Now that's a question, I remember using some sort of calculator but this was 8 years ago when I barely knew what I was doing. I'll dig up the RAWs and see if there is some Exif. But at a guess, I think tens of seconds - remember I couldn't go too long because it was picking up too much light from an airfield.

There are some absolutely cracking photos in this thread :D

Edit - Sigma Art 18-35mm f1.8 @ 1.8, 10-13 seconds, 2000 ISO on my Nikon D5200.
