Aurora Borealis red alert for the Uk tonight.

The aurorawatch UK site is a good shout, I tend to keep an eye on spaceweatherlive.com as well (in simple terms in UK you basically need the KP to be 7/8+ and the Bz to be South, and a bit of luck)

FFS why did I hear nothing of this. Of all the **** that we hear about via social media and "news", I saw nothing about it!
Is there a chance to see it again tonight or is that it done?

Solar activity remains high with ongoing X class activity so chances are possible for a repeat tonight and/or over the coming days.

If you go outside and can’t see anything, take your phone out and use the camera - even without taking a photo, it will pick up the aurora in the sky and show it on the screen when it doesn’t look there’s anything there with the naked eye

Tried that, just a black screen

Bravo, what time was this? In the brief moments I opened my eyes, couldn't see jack (I'm in Morden).

Edit - mind you the only time I've seen them was in Orkney and was hard to see with the eye. My camera had no such issue.

Orkney 2016.
We noticed the glow out of the window at about 10:30 and was walking around outside until about midnight taking lots of photos

Yup, longer exposure modes on the ol' phone worked for me.
