Australian GP 2009 - Race 1/17 (NOT in HD BTW)

the young pitlane guy the bbc have said at the end of the qualifying that the flexible diffusers on the toyota had been deamed illegal instead of saying the flexible wings

It's the horizontal planes on the rear wing, NOT the lower diffuser. There's not much benefit to a flexible lower rear diffuser. It's purely a safety regulation to prevent dramatic failure as if they broke at high speed the car could get punted into the wall with little warning, or bits could hit a following car.

You've gotta love the difference in the Brawn GP team, compared to the Honda team...
Just shows that what happens when you have a chief mechanic in charge instead of a penny pinching administrators.
Its nice to see button and bar with decent cars underneath them for once.

Hopefully the fia wont see Ferrari slow pace as a reason to ruin the new diffusers...

:(

happy for JB and RB and there team, but really hope mclaren get back on form!

plus richard branson is a legend, i like the man!

with the amount of money Honda spent in F1 they were not penny pincher's

Wow im pretty pleased with that one, Rubens has a little more fuel which makes it all ok for 2nd place :)

I think the bbc need to sort out the guy whos in with brundel though, hes pretty much becoming a hardman version of james allen which is probably the wost thing possible. Though i still liked him more than the guy who did p2 thursday night (he had no clue what was going on).

Im with one of the pratice commentators for 6 front wings gone at the race start too :p (Hammy HAS to be one of them, along with Piquet and Buemi)

Besides on here last year Button was constantly slated as a past it rubbish driver with his mind elsewhere.

Better car and bingo, pole.

Indeed. He has qualified well. But how will he fair when racing? How will he fair when competing for multiple race wins a championship?

You are making out as if Button has already won the title, when all he has done is get 1 pole position.

I still feel that the old man of the field (Barrichello), will score more points than Button, (barring extraordinary incidences) and if he does, you would really have to wonder just how good Button actually is, given that MS comprehensively dominated Barrichello, when he was at Ferrari.

I think you are jumping the gun here.

I bet Button is barely being paid a million quid too. Though driving a potential championship winning car kind of makes up for that :D

He has transformed from being a journeyman to a serious racer again. His commitment to the sport (didn't stop training during all the uncertainty) and willingness to take a massive pay cut are proof of that IMO. Good on him I say.

Lets be honest it's a Honda car designed under the Honda team with the budget Honda had.

Sort of justice after being payed something like 20 million for driving one of the worst cars on the grid for a couple of years.... :D

/fanboy moment
And Rubens gets a championship winning car and contract! :D
/end fanboy moment

Well I think the difference in driver ability in F1 is minimal compared to the difference the car makes, F1 has a lot of top drivers most of them have just been struggling over the years in uncompetitive cars.

that's why you get Drivers constantly out performing their team mates. Drivers are still a huge part in how quick the car can go and the cr plays a large part in where it is in the field. Way f1 has and always should be. If you want to see same car series watch something else. It's not just all out speed of a driver, it's giving engineers useful info, setting the car up and being consistently quick.

Not only are the brawn's quick, but they look fantastic too! I just hope the other teams don't catch up the pass too quickly. It would be nice to see button get a championship.

See how Light Ferrari are running.

theres going to be some head scratching in the ferrari garages thats for sure

looks like they went in all guns and blazing and got nothing out of it. Theres still plenty of time left in the current season for them to adapt however ..

I'd respond in full, but instead I will just say I hope Button proves you wrong Sunama. I won't take anything away from Barrichello because I believe he had some edge over MS and was being held back by team orders, but we'll see won't we. They will both deserve any decent drives they get this season that's for sure.

Button has shown dedecation, loyalty and is a true sportsman and doesn't get involved with racer tantrums and drama. His driving style his quick when he's smooth, but he can push himself that little bit more to the edge and oik what he can out of a car. He showed great confidence today.

Looks like McLarens young drivers have let down the car development. Seems like they have some rear end down force/traction problems as they are not jumping on the throttle on exiting corners like the the RBR and Brawn GP drivers can. I am however, highly surprised by Ferrari's performance. I'm not a fan of the team or Kimi, but I'm disappointed they're not in the top 5 at this stage giving the other teams a hard time.
