Australian GP 2009 - Race 1/17 (NOT in HD BTW)

So why does everyone get all hot under the collar about the fact that Benetton and then Ferrari tended to favour Schumacher?

Most of us, or at least myself, aren't old enough to recall that far back and I didn't know about such happenings. I remember only as far back as the couple of seasons before Hill won the WDC.

The sport was very much a rich mans play thing back then, and they could do mostly what they wanted without much drama, the biggest tantrum won and the odd punch up was acceptable. Today, the sport to some is very watered down but at least we might get to a point where we can enjoy the racing and not the off-track politics that overshadowed the excitement of last year.

Been out all day, have I missed much since qualy?
I heard on the radio about the Toyotas, and the Lewis thing.
:)

I can't decide what to do. Do I go to bed now and get up early, then probably not get up early and miss the race. Or do I just not go to sleep until the race is over, then sleep all morning and most the afternoon?

Also will this be available to watch on iplayer live?

yea it says it will be available in high quality (it tells you here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tv_and_radio/4341486.stm ) but even if it wasnt you could just watch bbc one live here anyway ;) http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/watchlive/

Or watch it a 1pm when its repeated, thats what I'm gonna do.

The qualifying is on iplayer so I would imagine the race will be to.

I think the jist of it is F1 is financed like the stock market (with the teams the investment) and with the threat of teams leaving (and thus taking away money from the races) F1's future is a bit uncertain, as theres no choncord like agreement assuring teams dont jsut drop out (like honda just did).

The problem is Bernie is playing hard ball as its effectivly his share of the profits the teams are trying to dig into (greedy old git) and rrenult+mclaren are kicking up a fuss as they cant get their hands on enough out of Bernie.

I think thats how it works, not the clearist article though.

Anyway its all about staying up to the max as its only 8 hours to go :D

I HAVE to watch this live. Reckon I'm gonna go off to bed now actually. It was agonizing waiting for 1pm without watching the TV, listening to the radio or going online in case I saw the result.

well im off to get some sleep set my alarm for 5:01 and hopefully set my phone not to change the hour forward by itself or i will probably miss the start lol.

Wooo just watched the highlights now.. so happy for JB :D

And just saw a link on the site showing their new intro bit.. The Chain - fantastic! :D

Oh, shut up you tart. No-one lambasts Senna for blocking Derek Warwick from joining Lotus in favour of someone who wouldn't challenge him (that would be Johnny Dumfries). No-one seems to be that bothered that Lewis Hamilton appears to have worked his way into a situation where he has a team-mate that won't challenge him at all (see German GP 2008). So why does everyone get all hot under the collar about the fact that Benetton and then Ferrari tended to favour Schumacher?
"Number 1" drivers have always caused nothing but arguments unless clearly defined from the start of the season. Remember the Mansell/Prost situation in 1990? "Our Nige" had a ridiculous amount of mechanical failures compared to The Professor.
As you mention, Senna only did the Lotus thing if he could be guaranteed a team-mate who would not challenge him (Dumfries, Nakajima)

When we have teams who let two excellent drivers fight it out, it often ends in tears:
Pironi/Villeneuve 1982, Mansell/Piquet 1986, Alonso/Hamilton 2007, Prost/Senna 1989 (admittedly some "good" did come of this but the overall outcome was unfavourable)
Rarely do you get an effective combination (Villeneuve/Scheckter 1979) with little sign of resentment.

Schumacher's conduct at Ferrari was nothing short of brilliant career-minded ruthlessness and he made the very most of it. It didn't exactly make for exciting viewing, but I doubt he particularly gave a flying one as he romped his way to 7 titles.

Does the race start at 7pm?

I use my phone as an alarm clock. Now Ive got the automatic time update function set to off. I however tried to change the time manually to an hour in front in preperation for the change and it said that within the next 24 hours there is a daylight saving transition and time will be adjusted acordingly.

I just hope it does change and keeps my alarm in check.

One way or another, I will be up for the race. Knowing my luck, I will be at 5am, thinking its 6am and have to wait till 7am for the race to start :p

Why did they have to pick this weekend to start the season!
