Australian Grand Prix 2011, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/19

Have to agree don't really like red bull as a team but they push the boundaries of the rules and they have to be appaulded for that. Jean todt got caught out doing with ferrari a few years ao didn't he?
I agree wit you nuts if you not allowed to do that then let's just have the same cars and race just like A1 racing

Oddly, that kind of 'innovation' doesn't gel with me, it's slightly hollow simply because it's so flagrantly outside of the rules whilst racing..

I guess lots of teams probably are doing lots of things that brake the rules during the race, yet pass scrutineering, it's just something I'd rather not encourage, much preferring to see more genuine innovations, and there have been plenty of those over the years..

So where exactly do you think these genuine innovations stem from?

I don't follow? The innovations I prefer to see don't break the rules, they work within the interpretation of the rules, there have been plenty of those..

Forgive me for not liking all the similarly dodgy innovations from Ferrari/MacLaren and all the other teams over the years.. But that's just me.

The innovations stem from "bending" the rules. You really dont get autosport do you.

Thanks for the condescension

This feels more a case that a rule is obviously been broken (not bent) by all the blatant video evidence, however it relies on a 'testing' loophole..

Of course I may be wrong, but isn't there a rule that states the bodywork should not be with X mm of the ground (for that element of the car), and whilst I could accept some accidental/very occasional breach of that, it's clear that this is very much not occasional or accidental, and certainly gains a large advantage?

I'm happy to discuss this, I'm not out on a witchhunt, but I am human, some things look unfair to me, this is one such thing.

Motor Racing is and always has been about bending the rules, and sometimes smashing them completely, as long as you can get away with it. It's essentially some of the most clever minds thinking up rules, then even more clever minds thinking up ways to get around them.

If it passes the test, it's legal. Even if it's blatantly obvious that it's bending more than it should be out on the track, the only way to prove that is to test it.

Yes but you clearly look at the rules as a given rather than a guidance.

Yes, of course, that's a given, since it's already happened many many times..

When I looked at these 'innovations' they tend to fall into 4 categories

1. Quite within the rules, just something no one has thought of..
2. Bending a rule (in it's intepretation), possibly slightly sailing close to the wind
3. Breaking one rule, but relying on the fact the 'test' is insufficient to enforce it
4. Breaking a rule and hiding it

I have much more respect for innovations in the first category, and less and less respect as they get down to 4.

That is all

lmao i wrote out a well prepared post about F1 and its inventions, then deleted it while talking to my mate about womens bits @)

This is how i roll lol

Morning :p Two early starts ahead

hahaha

If I could drive I would (eye problem requiring low-odds laser surgery), thanks for the offer :D

Well I've placed my bet for this season. £10 says the combined points of Schuey and Alonso to beat Lewis and Jenson. It's an annual bet I have with a colleague at work.

Think thats a bad bet for your mate lol - Ferrari /Alonso is practically gaurenteed to beat one if not both of them to start with imo - and while Schuey's performances are bound to be better, by the looks of the car....with the same engine as Lewis/JB ... he cant have as bad a season as 2010 surely

Really depends on how hard the others want it, afterall we are just " a drinks company" so should offer little resistance :) I have the luxury of knowing what we have ready to go on the cars alas, i dont know what other teams have.

That said, what we have coming up is "impressive"

Just remember the old addage - "Share and share alike" , please dont win all the races - share them around a little will ya :)

edit - all teams "bend" the rules , and they will continue to do so - I would just really hope there are no "result is under appeal - to be sorted in a court room in x weeks time" garbage - Either ban the car at some point over the weekend....or parts that break the rules, or let it race (even if it requires a black flag from strong ex-driver stewards to be waved).
