Australian Grand Prix 2012, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/20

That's what I thought, the clear air thing shouldn't make that much difference.

What I was getting at was why was he off the pace? Especially after being so fast on Saturday?

Do we agree with 3dcandy and it was his head going down after losing 1st place to JB off the start or was there something else going on?

It's well known that he tears up his tyres more than JB and he was definitely struggling with tyre degradation towards the end of his stints.

Just seems like there's more to it than that...

Putting 150kg's of fuel changes the handling of the car considerably. With the lack of dry running on Friday and the general lack of understanding of the new car's it's not surprising that drivers weren't able to get a good balance for both situations(some couldn't get it for either!). Another great drive by Button, and he continues to make me eat humble pie but I am sure Hamilton will win his fair share this year!

Incidentally, if you type 'Gros jean' into Google Translate, it comes back with 'wholesale jeans'.

I miss hearing Lee McKenzie asking Wholesale Jeans if he's "bitterly disappointed".

In tribute to his home GP, Webber is driving in flip flops. Also, his car is full of poisonous spiders.

Charles Pic would be faster if he wasn't driving whilst texting all his mates. "Regardez! Je suis en F1!!!!!!!1111!!!LOLZ!!!!!"

Anyone else would find that Sauber a bit oversteery. The Bash, on the other hand, DRIFTU KINGU.

Don't get the bloody safety car out. It's a Caterham; just DISMANTLE it.

Australian GP result (as Australians themselves might express it): 3. Hammo 2. Vetto 1. Butto
Australian GP result for people in the UK who haven't got Sky: 3. ??? 2. Not sure yet 1. DON'T TELL ME. LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU

Ahh but isn't it Hamilton who is more able to drive round handling issues and balance issues than his team mate? It's strange how many people fail to turn a pretty dominant drive by Button into it's only the first race of the season...

I'm just saying, if LH had done exactly the same there would have been a huge amount of people praising him, yet Button get a much more muted support...

People are looking waaaay too much into this LH thing. It's the first race of the season FFS! Any driver who is competitive would be grumpy at firstly losing pole, and then coming third to their team-mate.

This really. Long way to go yet

:D :D Especially the Kobaybashi comment, he was loving it out there, more of the same please :)

I think anything to do with LH and JB is going to get blown out of proportion.

Hats off to JB though, great drive and in fairness to LH - those guys are so hugely competitive that anything less than the best result is going to get them down. He qualified first and a poor start cost him the win, the SC a potential second place. I'd have the hump if I was him in all honesty...

Interesting stuff about Mclaren's fuel issues though - has anymore been said about it or is it just Whitmarsh blowing smoke out of his a*** to put the other teams off?

At least it looks like we'll have some decent competition for the podium this year and I have a secret desire to see Schumacher get up there, if only for old times sake!

"The Fota teams and Ferrari - but not Red Bull or sister team Toro Rosso - have all signed a letter asking the FIA to get involved in controlling costs"

It's been a long time coming.

which is quite optimistic for when the new parts arrive

I always dislike this argument. Lots of people say it including fans and drivers, the problem is, other teams get upgrades too. This seems to be the main argument these days, there are always "upgrades just around the corner". Really irritates me.

Lewis is right to be disappointed, it isn't just that he fluffed the start and so Button won; it's that after he lost the place he never, ever looked like challenging for it. He should have been clinging to Button's rear wing but instead Jenson romped away into the distance.

The safety car robbing him of second is just an added kick in the knackers.

Still, he took pole and drove a decent race; it's not like this was a total failure for him, and there's a long season ahead.
