Australian Grand Prix 2013, Melbourne - Race 1/19

DC was going on about the road surface at Melbourne causing this, not so much the car. Then you have to ask, why was it kimi and no one else doing this then?

I suspect there is more going on here than meets the eye, as I too noticed it only seemed to be his car sparking when other cars were going over the same spots and were not having the same effect.

I listened to the F1 preview at RadioLeMans.com and they were talking about one of the teams have a passive system that could change the rake of the car during a race (Although they said that the Williams looked good :p). I suspect there is something like this on the Lotus or some kind of ride height system that may or may not be legal ;)

Why do you think that?

Ma QuickQuid does not meet ANY of the criteria for a Super Licence. His soul racing career success is a win in the 2nd tier national touring car championship in China, the equivalent to the Clio Cup support series in the UK that follows the BTCC.

He's been allowed a Super Licence because someone in China has written a very large cheque.

The idea of the Super License is to ensure that F1 drivers are of high quality. You can have it removed if you don't perform or if the FIA feel it should be stripped from you. Ma Quidco makes a mockery of the whole process if you can just buy your way into getting one. It goes beyond a 'pay driver' and into the realms of bribery in order to secure funding. Its appalling.

Gf is not happy, being Mclaren supporter.. How can they make a car worse than last year with so few changes?

I thought they had made some big changes?

Last years car was pretty dire so they went with something new which unfortunately made it even worse

Didn't Martin Whitmarsh say they would stick with the new car for a few more races and if it doesn't improve use last years? or something like that

Jenson seemed to indicate after the race that they have HUGE problems which will take an age to sort.

Can totally understand why Hamilton left

Too much PR
Slow car for the past few seasons
Mistakes with the Pit Stops
Race strategies and poor judgements during the race

Both the Lotus and Mercedes run passive interlinked suspension, front to rear.

Lotus since 2009, Mercedes since 2011. It takes a loooooooong time to perfect though.

The Mercedes version is supposedly more trick as it does roll as well as pitch.

Lotus also had that reactive system that raised the nose when braking that was banned before last season started.

To be able to lower the height of the car as fuel reduced would need to be an active system, or at very least a system not fully enclosed and isolated, which would be against the rules. Interesting times ahead...

Yeah a lot of people were slating him at the time...but it's looking like it was the right decision unless McLaren can find a miracle.

Just thinking, but could it not be linked to the fuel tank, they have bags for tanks iirc, if it's full it would potentially take up more space, pressing on some contraption that lifts the ride height, as it gets empty, the suspension lowers?

*awaits for something to point out that this is a rubbish idea*

Looking forward to see if anything comes of it though, I always love the conspiracy behind possible rule bending, makes a nice change for it to not be Red Bull too!

Skeeter, you can get one by running enough test miles (ask Kimi and Peter Sauber about that) and the FIA makes exceptions when they see fit. Besides, F1 is hardly the pinnacle of motorsport if it can't handle a little rain, never mind the ever-present pay driver issue.

Sounds plausible. The fuel bags do actually look like brown paper bags.

""There was an issue with Mark Webber's data system in the garage during the formation lap. The ECU on the car was fine."

You could read so much in to that..BUT I believe that...no don't go there :)

So that should shut Horner up then complaining that the McLaren ECU is crap! lol, in your face Horner.

Nice vid.
Nice of redbull to loan the car too to DC? Wonder how difficult it was for him to adjust to it?
He drives them all the time at promo events for Red Bull.

It was DC that rally crossed a Red Bull round the Texas track when it was still a building site and he drove one last year through a tunnel in New Jersey to promote them having a race. He does lots of other smaller events for them as well.

Surely these would have been cars a few seasons old - I would be surprised if they give the BBC a current car (even if DC is an ex driver of thiers)
