Also, if there are cars are less stable, good drivers will be able to differentiate themselves from the lesser drivers.

So far it seems that these parts have been used from the allocated 5 of each:

Maldonado - Already used 2 ERS-K units, 2 ERS-T units and 2 Energy Stores
Ericsson - Already used 2 ERS-K units and 2 Energy Stores

I also didn't notice this in the regs, but Adam Cooper pointed it out on twitter.

Grid Penalties can be carried over to the next race. Qualify 17th and have a 10 place grid drop? You'll start 22nd at this race, and then lose another 5 places next race too.
Note, I said CAN, if the FIA will enforce that or not, I have no idea.
 
The penalty only lasts 1 race though. I.e. Qualify 21st at GP1 and start 22nd at the next race, (GP2) but then that's it.

Those "remaining" places you would have dropped are gone in the next GP (GP3).

It's to stop the top runners changing a gearbox when qualifying outside the top 10. I think it's a good idea, but will effect the top teams before it effects the bottom ones.

Getting closer and closer now, if a RB tops qualy today i'm going to throw my T.V out the window. I really hope Vettel has a normal car this season and seeing how well he will be able to cope with not having the best car on the grid.
 
Looking like qualifying is almost certainly going to have rain - rain predicted between 4pm and 11pm.

Now i've said that it'll be bone dry :D
 
I'm not expecting anything major from RBR, in the first half of the season.
I expect RBR/Vettel to set the pace after the Summer break.
At this point, if they are not too far behind the title leader, Vettel/RBR will have a chance at the title.

The question is, big a gap can the rest of the field open up over Vettel, before RBR finally have a fast AND reliable car.

Lets not forget. We are talking about RBR being unreliable. What about Merc? What about Ferrari? These cars may not finish the first race either.

There are lots of variables right now - even F1 commentators are not sure about.
 
I reckon we'll see very little running if the heavens open in FP3, as there won't be much time to fix the cars.

They'll need all the practice they can get though, can't wait for Quali now.
 
As the fiercest is back to rain for everything, I think we will see running.
I so hope it's not rain though. I want to see some engines pop and get a reasonable idea who's where. If its wet, we grind sod all out, engines won't be stressed nearly as much.
 
Rosberg with a piece of his car in his hand while driving around? Weird, you'd think if it was something in the cockpit that broke, he'd want to come in.

Lotus screwed, did Grosjean say fire in the engine, miss firing engine? Maldonado with a dodgy brake pedal, it's not good.


For once I agree with something Brundle said, they all look like they are driving the car in every corner... and that is fantastic and is what I screamed for last year.

It's not that Vettel was 20 seconds ahead, it's that watching him drive faster was like watching someone driving down the motorway in the slow lane, cruising, nothing difficult, nothing special, completely dull. If vettel was actually fighting the car and risking binning it on every corner it instantly becomes actually better to watch, if he's losing, winning, 4 laps ahead.

And yep it was always going to happen :) that's what happens when you have decent amounts of electric. All the torque and then more. Combines with heavier cars and less downforce. But even in last years cars I bet they would be doing the same if they had that torque.
 
Thats what I was thinking ERI didn't run in first two P sessions, and even know is well well outside 107% and those mercs are just getting faster and faster.
 
Oh man can't wait fir the race, with them being such a handful. It will make it clear as day who the good drivers are and could see some in the midfield come though the pack.
 
lol, watching Red Bull's run and once again this "RBR looks best in corners" is just horse crap, he's making huge error corrections in more corners than not, entry into corners is poor. The car looked like this yesterday, for any given lap, long run for long run or qualy run for qualy run, the RBR to me looks no where near the best in corners, with Merc way out ahead, Mclaren not at all bad.

Also the Red Bull doesn't look remotely close on pace and even then Vettel came incredibly close to binning that in the wall.
