Australian Grand Prix 2014, Melbourne - Race 1/19

I do wonder to a certain degree is, with Grosjean going off SO often, how much is this just Grosjeans massively over aggressive driving style. Surely if they brake earlier and don't go off the track 7 times a lap he's be faster?

Really hard to know, Maldonado isn't a unaggressive driver himself but would be nice to have a comparison. Haven't been paying attention of late but, can I presume Maldonado's car isn't going to be ready for this session?

EDIT:- nope, Maldonado there but looking slow and first time I spotted him he was coming back on the track himself.

Wow, the tire squeal on Alonso, to be honest I like the lower noise, you can really hear so much more, can hear them going over rumble strips better, can hear when they do something to tyres, can hear the pit radio better so far.

So close there for Maldonado. :D

[edit] And off again.

And that's some serious rain. Getting lots of messages from race control - Track surface slippery in Sector 1, 2, 3.... Well yes, it would be.

That's heavy rain.

Maldonado, he makes me happy, when he's off the track and hasn't collected anyone. Hopefully he'll be so crape this year even his money won't find him a seat.

And Kobayashi :) in 16th. Can't see anyone going faster.

Did I read somewhere that the engine contracts have performance clauses. While I generally expect Renault to sort their **** out and after not too long. If Merc were just the better engine, how many teams do you think would switch to Merc engines for next year.

EDIT:- don't understand that though, Maldonado having given up on the lap still went way to fast into a corner and almost parked it in the gravel.

lol, team telling Maldonado to speed up while on dry tyres on a wet track, how to not make friends with your drivers.

I also remember hearing something about Red Bull having performance clauses with Renault.

As for changing to Mercedes, they can't. Mercedes are supplying the maximum number of teams they can. They'd need permissions from the FIA to supply anymore.

Ah, did not know that, though, if you assumed worst case scenario and Renault engines kept failing all year and no one had faith in it for next year, it would be in the FIA's best interest to allow it and have more running cars. I can see a lot of teams being very unhappy with the amount of issues that engine has had, how much it's cost them and how many points it may have cost them by the end of the season. A case of how much faith they'd have in new developments in the engines next year.
