Australian Grand Prix 2014, Melbourne - Race 1/19

And about a foot to high, its plain as day it's not this years and no centre brace on rear wing. Actually does rb10 have a central brace, the rest do.

Looks like the rb9

The nose doesn't looked stepped like the RB9. It's definitely not the RB10.

Edit: After watching the video on TDM it looks like a modified RB9 with a non stepped nose and also some cooling outlets on the side pods. Street Demo car?

Hmm. Black and silver livery on the McLaren?

Special Mobil1 20th Anniversary livery for Australia.

This is going to be unpredictable enough as it is, even without rain!

I predict a race dominated by who actually manages to finish. If it rains I expect non-finishers to get points.

My podium prediction: Rosberg, Massa, Button. Lewis will be forced to retire after leading 2/3rds of the race, gifting the win to Nico.

A rather 'McLaren' approach to a livery. Bit too clinical and boring.

Also, they manage to make a special livery for a sponsor, but last year for their own 50th anniversary the best they could manage was a sticker :(.

Needs orange.

I really don't want to see cars trundling around in the wet. I want a dry race so we can gauge the real world speed and pecking order.

Such are the reliability concerns, that apparently some teams are considering skipping FP3 in fear that they would not be able to rectify an issue before Qualifying.

Doesn't really make sense, if a problem was going to occur in FP3, it would likely occur in qualifying so FP3 serves as a chance to find a problem and at least have a chance to fix it by qualifying.

I expect were about 4 races to early for that anyway.

I think that's the point, they wouldn't have a chance to fix it as things take so long. Engine swaps are 6+ hour jobs.

So if it fails halfway through P3 then they start last. If it breaks in qualifying they might get through Q1 or Q2 before it does and start much higher up.

I quite like the McLaren paint job, will be interesting to see what their 'proper' livery will be.

Seems Caterham are trying to hide their shame...

That caterham nose is just plain weird looking, is there some benefit from having a upper leading edge? I'm no areo engineer but I would have thought a single tip gradually expanding would be more aero friendly.

Thanks Shimmy. Can't say I have seen your name before?

Anyway... Was going to come on and moan that I'll not be able to watch it as ill be at work, forgot it starts so early with it being Aus. Will be able to watch now :)

Its about forcing as much air under the car as possible.

Although Ted suggested in one of his notebooks that Caterham were going to adopt the Lotus twin nose. Possibly by Spain.

Just arrived back from a meal in a posh bit of Melbourne, had to ask for directions in the hotel next door and in walk Perez and Hulkenberg! Perez is a right shortarse compared to Hulkenberg.

Got quite a good look at all the pit garages this morning, McLaren had not put their Mobil 1 stickers on the sidepod covers yet, but the black had been added.

Torro Rosso definitely win the biggest willy nose award, closely followed by Force India.

Got a few rubish pics I'll try uploading later.

Been posting in this forum since its inception really, I've mainly participated on the technical updates and stories in F1 though. So pre-season testing and practice before a race.

Mercedes have brought a new FW and airbox for the engine, worth as much as 2 tenths.
They also intended to use a new shorter front nose, but it failed its crash test so will need to be revisited.

So excited today, not long to go :D
Was wishing my mate (who works for Williams) good luck with the season yesterday.

A selective quote from his reply - "Cautiously optimistic" :)
