Australian Grand Prix 2015, Melbourne - Race 1/19

I'm a little surprised at Ted's stance over the arrangement really - it would appear that they broke his terms of the contract and he's just supposed to roll over and accept it? Would anyone here do that based on what we know?

Does he even have his money back? If not, why the hell wouldn't he fight to the last? I'm assuming the money is from sponsorship, and if so, wouldn't he be obligated to his sponsors to do whatever it takes to get it back?

Ted holding VDG to account for the "potential demise of Sauber" is pretty ridiculous. This will do VDG's career harm no matter what the outcome - he is likely to be viewed as a "problem driver" by any prospective team he drives for even though it may not be his fault at all. It must have been very difficult to turn up to the circuit in race gear knowing that the whole team hates you!

The way I see it, it's difficult to blame anyone but Sauber for this based on what we know and the fact that a court agrees.

Croft to Ted: "How would you like it if we tore up your contract because Sky found someone who can afford a decent pair of long trousers?" :D

I'm just catching up on all this. Why did Sauber suddenly decide they didn't want Van De Garde?

Were Ericsson and Nasr not in the running at the time they announced Van De Garde or did they get cold feet after signing him and thought Van De Garde wouldn't be good enough?

i don't think Ted actually holds that stance. They were just playing the two sides of the disagreement - Ted was acting as Sauber and saying their argument.

Back to the racing, I'm glad our pace appears to have translated from testing. Long run times look good which puts us in line with williams so we should be challenging for a podium hopefully! Merc are still well ahead but would be great to see Ferrari back on the podium more regularly.

If i had paid $8m for a race seat, even if sponsors money, i would do everything i could to get what i paid for, if thats not possible, at least get the money back.

If i wasn't in the car, id be laying down in front of it in protest on the grid.

Right, ok. So they didn't know they could get more money with Ericsson and Nasr before signing VdG?

Well from what has come out (so take with a pinch of salt) VdG paid £8m upfront as part of his contracted agreement made last season while a reserve driver for a race seat this year.

Sauber then knowing they had a driver contracted decided to hire 2 more drivers for this season (both of whom bring considerable sponsorship) and tried to ignore VdG in the hope he'd just go away.

Edit: then there's also Sutil who has said he had an 'agreement' to drive for Sauber this year and is considering legal action :p

If VDG gets compensation from Sauber for nullifying his contract, which at the moment looks likely, you can bet your bottom dollar that Sutil will be arranging his own court case before the next race (if he has a legally binding contract as claimed).

Sutil already has, though he's just asking for cash not a drive.

So at the moment it is looking like McLaren are going to be a bottom table team and Ferrari competing against the Mercs.

Oh Alonso, you done it again! Doh!

smr gunna end up in a padded cell by the end of this one :p

Competing against the mercs. Not a chance. They've extended there lead massively.

They had twice the leas in fp1 that they had last year and 1/3rd faster in fp2.

Mclaren like mercy and rbr, are the long game of building it up. Only mercy has control of mercy engine. Which was not acceptable to mclaren. So now they have complete control of Honda engine? All depends how long Alonso is planning to stay for. But it seems pretty obvious Renault or Mercedes powered teams have no hope of competing with Mercedes.
Which leaves Honda as the unknown long term
