I'm not saying it's better, I just can't really see how it's worse. They are running at different times in qualifying. Rather than at the end they are running sooner. Multiple cars were forced to do extra runs in Q1/Q2, which is apparently being ignored, which means less tires at the end.

I have no idea why people think it makes a difference if the lap is done at the end or 4 minutes from the end, it's the same lap. Merc/anyone else would never do more than two runs. Can someone explain what difference it makes that they spent less time in the pits in between runs?

Vettel starts in 3rd, but he will have to pit earlier than the Mercs, making his job of threatening the Mercs (barring issues) more challenging.

Mercs both did two runs, they finished with 4 mins to go rather than 0, can someone honestly explain what difference that made? The commentators wanted drama so spent the whole session saying they didn't like it rather than talking about the changing lap times and talking about the laps being done, as did most of the fans it seems.
