Not really - it was about as entertaining as watching paint dry. The noteworthy events were basically:

- Max Verstappen spinning of his own accord
- Both Haas retiring due to failure to attach wheel correctly
- Vettel overtaking Hamilton due to VSC

disagree completely

as posted before the mid field battles was really good plus result was the icing on the cake

I must have missed the midfield battles then, as all I saw were a few cars following each other, with the one behind sometimes pulling out before a corner with zero intention or ability of beginning an overtake.

Another snore fest. Cars being noticeably quicker until they catch the car in front and then become unable to overtake them unless they purely out drag them with DRS up the straights.

Which midfield battles were good? Or do you mean that cars following around 0.7s behind one another were good to watch?

From what I can tell on this article the only midfield overtakes were:

Bottas vs Stroll
Ricciardo vs Hulkenberg
Bottas vs Ocon

All of the other overtakes were at pit stops.

Found this chap on YouTube. He has a lot of good videos and his animations are pretty good too.

How rubbish was that? It's just bonkers when you think how much time, money, man hours, resource etc when into staging that race and how hopeless it was.

If F1 was a brand new series, set up from scratch and that was their first race, the new series would be laughed out of town. The fact that the series has evolved over decades to this state should be an embarrassment to all involved.

The disconnect between the hype, build-up, coverage and the actual racing on track has never been greater.

Wow. What has f1 become.
Who cares how fast it is if there is no overtaking.

All that money will rise intelligent people and the race is dull.
Many more like this and audiences will surely drop.

I won't miss it really when it goes to sky exclusive.
I skipped through big chunks of time with no loss of action

It just beggars belief how several billion quid and several thousand intelligent people can put on such a hopeless show. At the end of the day, if they haven't got an entertaining, enjoyable, interesting product for the TV audience - they've got nothing.

Damon Hill has summed it up pretty well. The teams should not be calling the shots. I for one wouldn’t miss ferrari or Mercedes if they went elsewhere.

I'd initially miss the teams if a few went at once, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren for example. If just Ferrari threw their toys out of the pram I'd be over it in the time it takes Haas to do a successful pitstop.

A breakaway series would take significant capital investment, and they'd need to secure the majority of the high profile drivers for it to be a success IMO. If they stuck to their current formula, the end product would not be great. Conversely, if the remaining F1 teams, together with new ones, managed to retain a top driver or two (the $$$'s count here) and the formula was changed to improve the end product then it would be successful. Very successful.

Breakaway series from other sports have proven to be able to change the game, often for the better, but they've never really survived in their own right. Liberty and Ross Brawn need to be absolutely firm with the manufacturers over future changes to the sport.

I recorded it, started to watch it, noticed after about 5 laps, everyone was "nicely" spaced out, started to pay more attention to the usual nonsense in the morning paper, then just turned it off. Not worth watching really, sad.
