If the Mercedes engine is the golden ticket, why are Force India and Williams not filling up the top 6 every race? If anything both seem to have gone backwards this year (although Williams is most likely due to two dismal drivers).

I do agree about aero restrictions and ground effect, though.

Interesting quote from Hamilton - "In the race I had extra tools, I could have been further ahead by the first pit stop.“

So not only do they have a 0.7s magic button in the car, but also significant race pace. Ferrari better hope for the same kind of luck every race.

How did Kimi have a potential win? His only way of winning was if Ferrari had pitted Vettel first and forced Hamilton to pit early to cover for the undercut but Ferrari were always going to choose the strategy with the maximum chance of Vettel winning over anything that favoured Kimi. Kimi drove the best weekend he could.

Bottas, yeah, poor as usual. Verstappen got jumped at the start and then was the only driver I can recall who wrecked his race by his own unforced error. He threw away an easy 4th place. I don't know how you can describe that as average. I thought Force India did pretty well. They have the lowest budget of any team and they beat out Haas, Toro Rosso, Sauber, and Williams and got both cars to the end with Perez keeping pace with Sainz. That's a decent result for a team like Force India.

Alonso drove a great race. Only Riccardo did better in my eyes.
Like I said, my opinion, but thanks .

"'Mercedes is playing with everyone', says despondent Marko"

One race and he is already calling for rule changes. I hate that guy.

I didn't hear Marko complaining about rule changes when they were winning everything due to RB's superior aero package. Quite the opposite, him and Horner were always saying how it wasn't their fault that other teams weren't doing as good a job as RB were. It's just the usual sour grapes from those who aren't winning. It's always been the case that those who build their own engine and chassis have an advantage because you get greater synergy and packaging doing it all together.

Isn't the customer Mercedes limited in output below the works engine?
Not this year. All customer engines must be identical to the factory teams. Source

Also they haven't got the money to develop an amazing car to go with the engine.
Exactly my point, the engine isn't the sole reason Mercedes are ahead, despite Marko's constant whining.

IMO the VSC was a bad call, should've been straight to SC.

Gutted for Haas as they seemed to be having a really good weekend, time to get more pit practices in.

Happy that Alonso is back in a car that has potential.

Not the best race but far from the worst.

From Chandhok's analysis of the pole lap, it wasn't his engine that gained Hamilton nearly 7 tenths so I don't think the "Party mode" / "Magic Button" idea is accurate.

Almost all of his time was made up in the braking zones, with another 0.2s from the extra speed he carried through turns 11/12.

Seems to me like he was absolutely mega on the brakes for that lap and the chassis/aero is extremely good. Kimi actually gained small amounts of time on each of the straights so I'd bet the Ferrari was either running more power, or they had much less down force. The latter seems the most likely.

Which is still small change. It gets blown out of proportion just as an excuse. Mclaren have had 6 months to get it right. Each configuration offers positives and negatives.

It also requires the gearbox and its casing to be redesigned as the turbo now sits on top of it. That in turn affects the packaging of the whole rear end of the car and, in turn, the aero.

Yes, if anything the Ferrari was slightly faster on the straights. Lewis has always gained his time in late braking, it's why Bottas was struggling in comparison. In qualifying at least, it seems there isn't too much between the engines.

Gave this one a lowly 6 due to the unecessary VSC twisting the results.

Hamilton was superior all weekend, Bottas unimpressive as ever, Vettel undeserving of the win. Haas being up there makes for an interesting midfield tussle though :)

The halo is still unbelievably ugly...

Even Verstappen has come out and said he'd have turned it off if he was a fan watching it.

It has this weird power over me, it can be boring the **** out of me and I'll still sit there and watch it. I just can't turn it off.

This was Vettel's first win in 4 months too. ;)
