Austrian Grand Prix 2014, Spielberg - Race 8/19

I didn't see qualifying.
Reasons for the order?
Was there an issue on timed laps, or does this track really suit the Williams vehicles?

The Williams could get the super softs working best.
No one had a clean lap, everyone made mistakes.
Hamiltons rear end locked up sending him into a spin.
Vettel was... well... nowhere

Plus, if you went off the track at turn 8, you pretty much instantly got that laptime deleted. They're actually enforcing the rules! For that one corner...

I'm guessing Frank Williams wasn't keen on employing Massa with Williams because he said he didn't think he was that good until today.

Nico quick to blame Lewis' spinning, stopping Nico getting his best lap.

LOL at Vettel not getting in to Q3 :p.

Yes Williams for a 1-2 .

What happened to Hamilton? Locking the rear axle under braking is proper scary . Any Clio 182 owner will know that you don't remove the ABS fuse, as otherwise the rear bias jumps from ~5% to 50% and you end up in the wall!

Hamiltons looks like a failure of some sort to me but will be fun to watch him to try and get through the field.

It did, but Heidfeld had a similar incident in 2002 at the same corner (though he rather horribly went gearbox first into the side of Sato, punching a hole in the chassis, but thankfully somehow Sata was unhurt).

I'm sure this was a technical failure of some sort though.

Was happy to see Hamilton nowhere in Q3 today.

I'll be wishing for some sort of miracle, where Williams hold on to the top spot and actually win the thing. But I think we all know that won't be happening. :(

balls, for Hamilton, great for Massa/Bottas. Don't know if that was a purely Hamilton error, as Brundle said it looked odd for sure.

Poor in general from Merc in terms of getting a grip on the super soft. With Williams, harder tire wear, from recent history its likely that they could turn the temp up on the tires quicker and Merc struggled to do that, but surely they should adjust to that, do 2 slow laps before pushing, something. Seems odd that it's effected them for a few races at least and they haven't got a handle on it yet.

Of course it wasn't a hamilton error, it was the Austrian Mountain Gods conspiring against the British driver so they purposely spun his car around for him... silly!

Regarding cars where it looked like they were wide at turn 8, keep in mind the rear track is wider than the front, so while they may have had 3 wheels over the white line, the fourth might have been touching it.

Sadly the very reason Williams grabbed pole is the same reason they'll struggle to finish in the top 6 tomorrow - tyre temperature. They were able to gets theirs into the sweet spot today while other struggled to gain temperature in one lap, but that ought to mean they'll wear them out far quicker tomorrow.

We already know the Williams wear their tyres faster than most of the other teams anyway, so unless the other teams suffer graining from only having surface temperature tomorrow (unlikely on such a stop-start track with so few long corners), there's little chance Williams can win, well, unless we have a weird race and one of them take a lucky punt on pitstop strategy.

yeah i am sure williams will go backwards as gav said.
its nice tho having this swing as it causes overtakes between quali and race

still great for williams

lol vettel

so no word on Hamilton issue. well its his own fault for not completing the first lap

dire lotus, id be very surprised if they continue beyond this year :/
love that crafty penultimate corner and the track limit rule

claire williams does nothing for me persoanlly
