Austrian Grand Prix 2014, Spielberg - Race 8/19

Button destroyed by Mag.

What was his excuse this time ?
'Destroyed', nice. Well its 4-4 for the season for Button and K-Mag, but no one has ever considered Button to be anything other than awful at qualifying :)

Remember he wasn't able to run in FP3 due to his rear brakes catching on fire, so that's bound to have an effect. At least he gets his choice of tyres and starts 11th due to Perez's five place grid penalty.

Well, I missed the qualifying today as I was playing golf, now I'm having to watchy it on BBC iPlayer because the gf is haveing a girls night so I can't get to the tv. Not watched the F1 on BBC since Sky took over

And, it's my favourite track that I used to race on F1 '97 the PS1 game :D

Well track usually is, true, but the wheels and tyres are wider at the rear.

And the axles etc are different sizes to compensate. The wheel rims outer edges are, excluding any trick protrusions, 1800cm apart, front and back. The only thing allowed beyond this is flex in the tire walls.

18 metre car?

From what I can see the regulations state the width as 1800mm excluding tyres.

Ha. Sorry meant mm obviously.

Yes. 1.8m wide cars excluding tyres. But that includes wheels. So the width from the outer edge of a wheel to the outer edge of the other wheel on that axle is 1.8m. The exclusion for tyres is to allow tyre walls that bulge outwards a bit, as they do a little in the middle of the side wall. The additional width of the rear tyres is accounted for inboard. The cars are 1.8m wide on both axles.

Looking forward to a great race today, with a few drivers out of position on race pace. I like the look of Austria - could be a good track to visit for next year.

Well. That wasn't the result I expected to see. Hamilton is in danger of squandering his best chance at a second title if he doesn't get his act together.

I'm it's already over for Hamilton. The red mist has already set in.
