Rosbergs tyres could give up in the final few laps, but Mercedes have favoured Rosberg for the entire year.

No, they definitely don't need supersofts to get to the end, but that doesn't mean the softs are necessarily slower. They are slower in qualifying conditions over a single lap but over 16 laps they still have better deg and there were plenty of people faster on softs than supersofts after the first round of pitstops and for instance Vettel/Kimi's pace in the first stint wasn't anything special compared to Ham nursing the living hell out of a set of ultras.

Basically Ham can lean on his tires a lot harder over 16 laps than Rosberg can.

doubt it, hamilton did a longer stint on a car full of fuel with ultras..

Meh, Hamilton will get almost alongside Rosberg when that bargeboard will fly off and smash into Hamilton's front wing damaging it and sending him off into a gravel trap.
