Stunning Q3 lap by Leclerc. Very interesting starting grid for the race, one that I don't think many people would've predicted. Certainly not me at least.

Lol. Ferrari in the softs. What a great way to risk a great chance at a win
I expect them to pit within 12 laps*

*Normally id say <10 but the lap here is so short they’ll probably go a few laps longer. At best 15 laps before they are dust.

Hamilton took the penalty well by admitting the error. A few years ago he’d have been much less forgiving.

Well the f2 race tyres lasted slightly longer on the softs than expected and the harder compound absolutely fell off a cliff, so if its hotter today it could be interesting.

This should be a very interesting race. Hamilton back in 4th, Norris up there, and Vettel running through from the back.

Looking forward to it!
Agreed, should be very interesting. Norris again impressive, let's see what he can do, hopefully no bad luck for him again.

Define mediums and hards? It's a relative name this year, not a specific tyre compound. Hypothetical example - the soft in Austria could be same compound as the medium from France.
Exactly.

Par for the course with Ferrari this year.

It's looking cooler today but they still won't last. Mercs on the mediums is where my money is.

Seems fair (Lewis fan), clumsy move and given fair warning as well. It happens I doubt he'll lose sleep over it, hopefully give more action tomorrow, however the way this season has gone probably won't.

Interested to see how temps will impact the race tomorrow.

Hamilton doesn't care - he's probably happy that the race will be a bit more interesting for him. He's only fighting Bottas for the championship at the moment, and he's so far ahead he doesn't have to worry too much. I expect him to finish first or second anyway barring any major mishaps.

Oh well that explains that then, still rubbish of them to not even mention Mags own penalty at the same time, because if we're reporting on penalties, report them all, right

Don't be silly, it's the BBC. When Lewis is fastest in P1 it's splashed all over the F1 section. When someone else is fastest in P1 they completely ignore it and only talk about P2.

The talk was that the deg of the soft is minimal here compared to the last race, so there isn't much in it. Horner also saying that Ferrari's pace is mostly on the straights so they aren't loading the tyres as much as Red Bull.

Not only this but also when lighter cars with less fuel also favour the softest compound. That's why I was surprised that during the previous races, they started on the mediums, were doing relatively fine, changed to the hardest with not that many laps to go and their race pace dramatically worsened.

A strategy soft-medium-soft must be much faster than medium-hard.

Plus he knows that there are very few tracks like this where Ferrari will be ahead - and they aren't even that much ahead on these tracks.

Bit of drama here. During Red Bull legend parade, the McLaren Gerhard Berger was driving caught fire. It is very hot here, but... It didn't make one lap :o

What McLaren was he driving?

Seen picture of lots of red hats being put on seats, which is cool. Even better, Turn 1 is now called the Niki Lauda Turn. :D

[edit]
Although Turn 7 used to be the Niki Lauda turn, but when Red Bull started getting the track used again, they sold the naming rights to that corner... so yeah...

A McLaren Senna.

Red hats and flags are for an aerial tribute to Niki they're going to do before the race. Nice touch

So it was a mondern McLaren - the Senna. Another one caught fire... Seems to be a turning into something a bit Ferrari 458'ish.
