Albon only got ahead during the actual corner. There's really no way Hamilton could have reacted and changed his line in time.

The key point is that he got ahead though, unless the 'leading driver' makes a very very aggressive turn in that is deemed to cause the contact, these things will always be a judgement call.

If the stewards have watched it and figured that Lewis could have taken some sort of action (be that steering lock, less throttle etc.) then it's hardly surprising they've given a minor penalty for it.

Stewards are clue less.. first Allbon shut the door on 1 lap at the same corner (that's 1st lap racing according to the stewards) then at the same corner doesn't use all the kerb/green paint (normal racing line if you watch any onboard video) trying to make Hamilton back off but having no where to go resulting in them both colliding.

Well done to the top 3...lando was the deriver of the day for me.

Hamilton was lucky he never got a 10 second penalty.

Anyway, great race, even if a lot of that was down to the number of incidents. I can't decide between Leclerc and Norris for driver of the day; both did brilliantly. Bottas winning the first race sets us up for a close season between him and Lewis, but with the huge advantage Mercedes had this weekend I can't see anyone else coming close.

Red Bull look to have worrying reliability issues.

Hamilton didnt turn his wheel once and jsut held what he was doing....im trying ot work out what he did wrong?

If you try to take the hairpin at Monaco with full lock but at faster than the normal speed do you blame the barrier when you crash into the outside barrier? if you take someone elses space at full lock then you're going too fast. He's lucky he only got 5 seconds look at what it did to Albon's race.

There are many times drivers where doing the exact same thing but never got a penalty.

Seems I'm against the general consensus here and think that a 5 second penalty was actually not harsh enough for basically taking someone out the race.

Great to see F1 with mechanical failures throws up results like this. Having the cars be bullet proof has been boring for years.

you are allowed to close the line off and the driver behind will break and tuck in. You can’t do that if the other driver is overtaking and infront of you. It would be no different if AA went up the inside too fast was infront but hit Hamilton because he was carrying too much speed. These are top drivers and they know exactly what they are doing when the leave or don’t leave space.
