Thing is Albon also had DRS better tyres, he could have paced himself a bit more and taken Lewis much better elsewhere.

I agree with this. Albon could have timed it better but nevertheless Lewis was still a bit naughty in my view. But just because I may feel the penalty was justified for Hamilton does not mean I also agree that people not receiving penalties for similar things is OK.

Ultimately, though Albon would have likely retired before race end anyway.

If there was a wall there, Hamilton would enter the corner in that way. This is not relevant to the situation.

It is relevant to your assertions he couldn't possibly have avoided that contact with which I disagreed.

He could have and arguably being the car behind after being fairly passed by half a cars length he should have.

No. I think Hamiltons class will shine through as long as he has the car under him.

Bottas has shown several times he can make a strong start but not maintain the momentum. He doesn't have Hamiltons consistency.

I agree with this. It was Bottas that went off yesterday and at times today Hamilton was clearly faster until the gearbox issues came up.

Hamilton was faster all the way through the race. started 5th, had to sit behind and do overtakes, he was 8 seconds behind when Max went out and caught Bottas in what, 5 laps? Bottas is nowhere near Hamilton in terms of race pace and the only way he'll win the WDC is because of lucky for him days like today.

You can't compare a fictional static situation to this real dynamic one. Hamilton enters and leaves the corner on a fair and reasonable line. Albon's poor positioning caused the impact.

Albon is not ahead until late in the corner. Hamilton would have had to have reacted in a fraction of a second, somehow realised Albon was going to turn into his line, and responded when already on the limit of grip. I doubt that's possible and I certainly don't think it is reasonable to penalise a driver for not doing it.

Or by Hamilton not backing out when he has been beaten to the punch and caught napping.

Lol. Why can't you just admit that Hamilton could have easily backed out and changed direction and being on full lock has diddly squat all to do with it.

In this situation, do you really think a 6 time WDC would be unable to take mitigating action if he wanted to?

Truth is he used all of his skills and timed that contact to perfection to ensure Albons race was ended.

The only reason there was contact is because Hamilton wanted there to be contact.

Yeah, this is just laughable. If you want to blame Hamilton, well I don't agree but it's clear that intelligent, well informed, people are reaching different conclusions about this. If you want to claim Hamilton hit him on purpose that's just pants-on-head stuff.

Yeah also think reliability is going to be a bigger factor this season a DNF or two is probably going to put either of them out of contention

Indeed. A lot depends on how many races there are this season. Obviously, we're not going to get the full set, but it also looks like there will be more after this initial eight. A extra DNF in an 8 race season is devastating, in a 12 race season it's huge, but in an 18 race season it can be overcome. My current guess is that we'll get between twelve and fifteen.

I think Hamilton’s post-race interview was very good.

He thinks it’s a racing incident but he accepts whatever punishment the stewards deem appropriate and he’s already thinking about the next race.

Might be good advice to a few of us in here. ;)
