Autumn Budget 2022

Some are, and if they are struggling they should get help. Some are quite wealthy and have other sources of income and don't need more handouts just because of their age.
They paid in just the same , maybe even more through other taxes why shouldn't they?

The problem is that most people, like me, will just stop spending on anything other than basic goods. The economy is going to be hammered. This definitely isn’t a budget for keeping businesses open.
I've already started down that road. I've had to buy lots of stuff for my daughter being new at Uni. I'm also buying a few clothes for a new job as I haven't actually had to go to the office for 2.5 years. But apart from that it's now essentials only. The economy is going to tank.

Everyone pays those other taxes. If the government can't afford triple lock increases to wages of nurses, teachers, bus drivers, etc then pensioners shouldn't get it either.

It's almost like they're forgetting that people need money to spend it lol.

The amount of money that's going to be taken out of the economy in interest payments and bills is going to be absolutely astronomical

Interest
Energy
Food

Very little of that contributes to the bulk of UK jobs.

Who hasn't made some cuts to optional spending? I suspect only the very wealthy.

For us the first thing to go is eating out. It's the worst bang for buck.
Takeaways too.
Cinema etc.

Other poor bang for buck
-multiple streaming subs
-live events (music/sport)
-physical store shopping
Delaying goods purchases, that new TV

Then this becomes the norm and many will never go back.

Soon you'll live in your home work in your home and socialise in your home. Because you won't be able to afford anything else

Well what's the point in saving for retirement then might as well spend it now.

This is a decision many (me for sure) will have to face. If you're not gonna be mega rich.. Is there any point trying to save if its taken all away?

I'm going to Godskitchen next month. The gov't can try and stop me!

I'll still go out twice a week to Caffe Nero to see one friend and to Wetherspoon to see a group of friends which totals around £30/week out of my entertainment budget. I'm on £18k, so a low(ish) earner and my energy bill for a 1-bed flat is now £174/month instead of £74/month so I'm feeling the pain like everyone else. However, I'm bored of being told by the press on what I should be doing with my money.

I can go to cafes and pubs and so can you!

Pubs Weatherspoons are rubbish these days anyway. Overpriced and no atmosphere.
FFTY

my local is still a proper village style boozer where you know everyone and everyone knows you, still have lock ins and whilst prices have stillgone up it's still worth it for a social as it has a great atmosphere and still has live bands every other saturday
