Autumn Budget 2022

my local is still a proper village style boozer where you know everyone and everyone knows you ... too young to know Kirstey Alley

Brewdog interview yesterday saying they are sucking up costs that would make their pint £10 in your local. ,,
but I care more about the diminishing egg supply in the supermarket, and suspect the nearby chippie who now illuminate about 1/4 of display caninet will close soon.

I get your point but isn't the egg supply more to do with the flu?

Made us all have less cash to spend. That's their logic.
Yeah but they said that inflation was primarily caused by factors outside of the UK so us having less money to spend won't lower inflation.
Most people will have pretty much the same money anyway.

Basically they promised to balance the books in about 4 years time (they wont)

Yeah, I agree with you here. Not really sure what they're playing at. I guess the question to ask is who benefits from this? Do their rich mates smell cheap houses? Good excuse to fire a lot of people?

I don't think there's much use raising rates much higher.

House price growth has been stalled and sent negative.
Peoples disposable income has been hit hard.
Raising rates may stabilise the pound to keep imports cheaper. But going to far will cause such damage to the economy that's no good either.

But its all the BoE can really do.

They kicked all the real pain to after the next GE certainly. Take from that what you will with regards to their confidence in winning it.

It certainly is the biggest fiscal 180 in history. Rejoining the single market will be small change in terms of a uturn compared to that (and they like uturns).

Got a text from my pensioner dad to say thanks for the 10% cheeky sod so yin/yang in balance there.

With WFH I wonder how many on disabilities could actually be gainfully employed now.

I mean we have at least a couple on here who can post a lot. If they can post on the forums I see no reason they couldn't do a text based role on a laptop ;)

I'm glad someone had the balls to say that. I was thinking that myself earlier reading the thread. Majority of IT based jobs don't require much mobility. If you can at least use a computer then there's plenty of WFH jobs you could do.

It’s totally possible, we just need a better way of getting the opportunities for them.

No issue with pensioners getting their 10%. As long as the rest of us who have to follow 'public sector pay' also get the same 10% increase as that would only be fair.

Oh yea the Tories don't care about fair and just want to win votes. Good thing they have basically guaranteed to lose the next GE. Can't wait for it!

Do you think Labour would raise benefits and public sector pay by inflation?
