Autumn Budget 2022

Everyone is getting below inflation pay rises.

Pensioners aren't, which was the whole point of the discussion

Like I say, your pithy little retorts are just the parroting of simple soundbites to complex problems. Which is why you vote for parties like UKIP and Reform UK, as that's the level they engage you on.

Hear hear!

That’s because they want two little cogs in their corporate machine and not one.

None of the mainstream parties care about families, all they care about is ‘the economy’. Stay at home parents aren’t good for the economy so they’ll disincentivise them as much as they can. The corporate machine is more important than peoples family lives.

The current Cons (if you can call them thet) could not care less about the economy, which has been a complete shambles for 12 years, first we had Con-doom 1.0 2010-2015 then hard Brexit, then huge corruption in C-19 contracts, then countless billions spaffed away just weeks ago which required intervention from BoE otherwise pensions would have collapsed. I've never seen a situation in which the economy didn't matter less than post 2010, God help us.

Pubs are rubbish these days anyway. Overpriced and no atmosphere.

I go to the Picture House in Stafford. It was a very good cinema which closed in 1995 (which was a shame), then reopened in 1997 as the Picture House and is a pretty decent Spoons imo.

Back on topic, I was just saying that I still go out socialising 2-3 times a week based on a low(ish) wage and a utility bill that has shot up 2.5x of what it was last year. But I'm not going to be told by the press or Greta's vegan-eating cohort on what my money or energy schedule is.

Everybody in this thread, rich and poor, need to stand up to this.

:D

Do you feel that way about benefits, even if people choose to use them for beer, ciggies, sky etc?

I have voted Tory the last 4 elections, although ikip had it's purpose.

I know I was defending it. Lol

I'm going to Godskitchen next month. The gov't can try and stop me!

I'll still go out twice a week to Caffe Nero to see one friend and to Wetherspoon to see a group of friends which totals around £30/week out of my entertainment budget. I'm on £18k, so a low(ish) earner and my energy bill for a 1-bed flat is now £174/month instead of £74/month so I'm feeling the pain like everyone else. However, I'm bored of being told by the press on what I should be doing with my money.

I can go to cafes and pubs and so can you!

Yeah everyone has thier own personal. 'last to go'.

For me it's holidays or days outdoors on MTB or kayak or board.
Everything else I don't mind cutting, but I'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming from this!

my local is still a proper village style boozer where you know everyone and everyone knows you ... too young to know Kirstey Alley

Brewdog interview yesterday saying they are sucking up costs that would make their pint £10 in your local. ,,
but I care more about the diminishing egg supply in the supermarket, and suspect the nearby chippie who now illuminate about 1/4 of display caninet will close soon.

But, they said inflation was the enemy and did nothing to stem inflation.

The Bank of England were noticeably tardy with rate rises only starting some time after the American's. They did move ahead of the European Central Bank but they could have been a bit sharper. 3% is still light when compared with the Fed should be another half a percent.

From what I can see there's no known right or wrong answer to raising as there is danger in raising too quickly also. Everything is clear in hindsight though.
