They don't pay £3-£5 if they're on a rental service where they just pay a flat monthly fee and just add it to their queue. I don't see why you're getting so worked up about it.
Its not the total of your gamer points anyway just how many you have on an individual game that counts. Thats why there is no point playing rubbish/kids games just for points. Imagine when the next console comes out and you start back at 0 and you'll think "what did I do all that for really, I should step outside and have a word with myself" or something to that affect lol.
I personally don't do it for the right to brag, I think it's an accomplishment to get 1000 Gamer points on a game, And if that means I have a huge score, Then that's a side effect of being a good gamer right?
should microsoft be more stringent in the allocation of gamerpoints in their games to increase the lifespan so the customer is garunteed Xmonths of gameplay and replayability
No, on the whole, I don't think GS affect the lifespan of a particular game for the majority of people, so I don't think it would be beneficial to anyone for Microsoft to get involved with their allocation.
It's not as if releasing a game where you can get the full 1000 points in 5 minutes will stop someone who wants to play and enjoy the game from getting many hours out of it.
I'm sure Avatar was enjoyed by many people that make up the target audience (kids I assume) for many hours and not simply as a way to get a quick 1000 extra points.
Many other games can be enjoyed for hundreds of hours well after getting the full 1000 points so I don't really see why GS should be tied in with the lifespan and replayability of any game.
For the people who played Avatar just to get the points, it didn't affect how long they played the game - they simply wouldn't have bothered with it in the first place - so I don't see GS adversely affecting the longevity or replayability of any game, it can only enhance it.
and since when is it not fun to get points? I don't see the stupidity in getting points, it's always been like that in a sense, You used to get high score tables on Street Fighter 2, Now it's just a case of everyone seeing what you have, and the challenge being extended to all games and the world.
