AvP MP demo is live

I think it's good fun, deathmatch isn't really the best mode for this I would have thought.

Been massacring people all day but now I can't seem to connect to anyone. The predator is a bit difficult to use but strong, the marine is easy to use but fragile, the alien is a killing machine though :)

edit: it's soo buggy though, crashes, server browser sucks.

i always seem to go top with marine, had a game earlier where just me and my friend agreed not to kill each other and just hunt aliens and Preds :P

For those complaining about what key does what you can configure the keys to do what you want guys so that shouldn't be a problem. That's as far as i have got earlier on had the searching for games thing and had to go out so quit the demo now when i try and go back all i get is "connecting" followed instantly by "discounted" " steam lost . Not a good experience right now and shows complete lousy planning on the part of sega and rebellion.

I,ve been searching for a game now for several munites...nothing happening???? is anybody playing this demo... why did they not include a single player level, just no fun at all!!!

Not including a sp level is the biggest mistake i think at least if it had one people wouldn't be getting so annoyed with the time it takes to even get in a game.

Thats all very saying you can reasign the keys but you have to do it three times. Why didnt they think of it? Did they even play test the game?

Q as run how do turn left and run? If they havent thought much about the basics what does it mean about the rest of it?

I assumed this was to make it harder to conrol your movement when you run.. or something. I re-assigned it to shift anyhow :)

Keys are a little funky, but I do think the DM action is quite fun. Fast paced and doesn't feel too clunky.

Ok, I had a run about and feel a little let down...

My biggest issue with the game is the matchmaking system, but it doesn't stop there. I think it would help to have a full group of people on your Steam friends list to invite into a group. I tried for ages to get a game on my own, but the moment I had two others in my group, it was almost instantaneous. So, in total, I've played maybe fifteen minutes :D

Found the Predator frustrating with no ranged weaponry - felt like I got seen every time I got within ten metres of an enemy - needs more subtlety, I guess. I was never one for sneaking about :D
The Marine was ok - the constant ping from the motion sensor was annoying - picking up a shotgun is possibly the most useless thing you can do - it's killing range is about 3 yards :D
Alien - no chance to try.

The level design of the map I played on was uninspiring and pretty basic. It felt too big with towering ceilings and not all that much in the way of cover. The graphics were not all that impressive either.

In all honesty, I'm struggling to think of anything which makes this game anything other than a future bargain bin purchase. That said, I have only had a short time to play - and I'll give it another go once I've got a few more Steam friends online and testing it out - who knows, my opinion might change - I'm ever optimistic.

If anyone wants to add me specifically to test out AvP, feel free:

You collect the ranged weapons for the predator, just as you do with the marine. You use shift to lock onto the target with them (when you have one) then press mouse 3 to use it. The plasma caster is utterly devastating, same with the disc and camping high up on predator/alien ONLY areas gives you a big advantage against other players

As others have said, i had pretty low expectations of this game due to Rebellions awful track record. I downloaded the demo and have to say, its awful.

The graphics look a lot like Doom 3 to me (mainly the corridors and boxes). I know this is only dx9, but i doubt dx11 will make that much difference.

The gameplay feels very contrived, pred and alien basically just run up to people and press their melee attacks which have auto aim and randomly being able to pres "e" which does a instagib trophy kill. As marine you use a machine gun/shotgun like any other shooter, and have a radar that pings every 2 seconds giving you a headache.

Controls seemed quite strange at first on mouse/keyboard, then i plugged in my 360 controller and thigns made a lot more sense. It even has the key mapping for 360 controllers on the loading screen to make life easy (gotta love console ports). wall walking as alien is quite confusing, they should have made it the same as it was in previous games.

Luckily i didnt have much problems connecting to a game (took a minute or two).

I guess we'll have to see how the singleplayer turns out, but i would definately reommend waiting for reviews and not preordering.
