That porpoising - absolutely ridiculous. There needs to be something done to allow the teams to fix this because it's gotta be a health issue.
George Russell has mentioned the health issues hasn't he? As Director of the drivers union/thing his comments must carry some weight. Honestly I think these cars are dumb as anything. I just turned on FP1 and saw Leclerc flying round one of the faster corners and he was bouncing all around it which must be so completely dangerous...

That's interesting because when Sainz first raised the issue, didn't some of the younger drivers basically just tell him to grow a pair.

Mercedes looking pretty poor here.

Looks like they may even struggle against the Alpines and Alpha Tauris.
Merc are shocking tbh, season's definitely a right off now and maybe next year, they've shown they haven't got a clue.
Mind you the fezzas looked terrible as well, as said above these cars are not fit for purpose (porpoise)

Every team, to some extent or other, is suffering from porpoiseing.

It is virtually impossible to completely eliminate it under current regulations.

It is far too much of a factor of the entire chassis design, if the natural frequency of the chassis (every teams design will have a different natural frequency) is the same as the frequency of the porpoiseing created by the areo stalling and re-engaging, that is when you get the really terrible bouncing..
That is not changeable within a year, and will only be eased when the new car is designed and built for next year.

The ONLY way to completely and utterly eliminate it under any and all circumstances, is the way it was eliminated in the past when ground effect was used, and that is by fully active suspension, which has been banned, although there are some rumblings and rumours it could be allowed again, if it continues to be an issue in future years.

All any of the teams can do currently is manage it as best as possible.

Some teams, RBR mainly, and Ferrari to a lesser extent, still get great performance even with quite high ride heights, so they can get away with minimal porpoiseing, although it is definitely still there, although at different times and speeds to other teams, due to differences in chassis design.

Others such as Mercs, loose too much performance when running high ride heights, so have to try to balance between performance and ride quality, and that results in far more obvious porpoiseing.

Yeah, I agree, it's such a shame when we had a perfectly acceptable set of rules already, I'm not suremhow they backtrack from this tbh, imo the cars are just awful.
RB are the only ones who look like they have a proper race car, the rest seem basically out of control on track.

Just when I think the worst take possible has been posted on here someone comes up with one that's even more wretched...

Well, heaven forbid that F1 cars should be tricky to drive!

Overall the new cars are a big improvement. The rules have worked. But the porpoising and bouncing is an unacceptable problem. But also I think easily fixed by tweaking the suspension rules to let them do more.

But they were not.
We had one team dominating for 7 years, that is not in any way acceptable.
Something had to be done to bring everyone closer.

The mistake was re- introducing ground effect.

That is the sole thing that has messed everything up.

I said it before, just reduce aero to around ten percent of what we had last year, reduce size of front and rear wings, eliminate barge boards and all the fiddly little bits, increase mandated ride height with thicker plank, increase tyre size and width, to give far more mechanical grip opposed to aero grip.

Then you would have eliminated all the issues of not being able to follow closely, yet still get enough of a benefit from a tow on the straights, to be able to slipstream and get a slingshot pass under braking.

Would also need to go back to steel brakes, so braking distances drastically increased, to give good opportunity of out braking others.

Personally I would also prefer to go back to fully manual gearboxes and clutch as well, re-introduce missed gears, false neutrals, all the other little driver errors that give following cars opportinities for passing.

But little chance of anything like that being re-introduced, as teams and mainly drivers would never accept them.

Its workable with the current regulations as red bull seem to have a pretty acceptable ride and with top performance.

After seeing the underside of redbull Vs Ferrari after the Monaco qualy crash. The redbull is just more developed.
