Babyshambles

a lot of babyshambles songs are from libertines sessions
So? You said regarding Babyshambles, and I quote "They have been popular since before he was in the public eye mate".

Well, mate, he was in the public eye before they were even formed. So this is my evidence.

or do you want to correct that as "someone who has sold me records in one day than I will in my entire life"?

his record sales arent that stunning, trust me. good for their position but both the label and the genre have had much bigger acts, in fact the strokes new album on that label (Rough Trade) is outselling Doherty and Anthony and the Johnsons did better as well. but just as the Libertines actually made very little money for themselves Doherty will likley get next to nothing out of babyshambles.

Libertines record sales were 10 times better and still nowhere near the big global super-acts (REM, U2 etc)

but you dont need an ability in a subject to appreciate the highs and lows. you just at some level need a passion and interest in the subject matter.
how many premiership footballers do we have on the board yet we can criticise their ability every weekend.
same with bands and artists.

Kelly osbourne has sold more records than anyone on this board is likely to doesnt make her any less of a fat talentless munter.

I have had a read of his poetry and written work and I have to say I think extremely well done. What infuriates me at the point is that it is so obvious that he can do a much better job than Babyshambles or The Libertines they are just so mediocre in lyrical value in comparison. It might be that he doesn't want music to go with his other works but he can definately do a hell lot better than The Libertines or Babyshambles if he put some effort in and cleaned himself up. What is infuriating is that he doesn't have to, he can just keep putting smack into his veins and giving celebs the leg over and stay their with a halfarsed job at being a musician as the magazines will be too glad to take in the rear for him. :(

...and despite pete thieving all the session tracks, they still werent around til afterward.

Well, he did write or at the very least co-write those songs, so he has every right to them.

This man has a serious medical problem, he's not on the drugs just because he can/feels like, he needs them, which is a shame. Also, I don't think he could have done better than The Libs; it was the joint efforts of Carl Barât that made them any good (as you might hear from Carl's new material, which is far superior to what Pete has produced by himself).

Well I think we can all agree that Doherty deserves to be very rich.
If you'd even read the thread you'd know how wrong that statement is.

Even if it is sarcastic, it's just wrong.

Am I the only one who thought that chrisd might just perhaps have been a smidgen sarcastic...
I'm hoping so, but it was a bad way to phrase it if it was. I didn't know if it was or not - which is why I didn't comment.

Thought it was quite good, and admittedly I am not a big poetry reader thanks to secondary education but it at least held my attention longer than T.S Elliot etc.

What I am getting at is he is not trying, the bloke isn't thick and is pretty damn well qualified academically, he has the potential, brains, and contacts to be bloody amazing.

It's a horror show, you should come on round
Horror show, the horse is brown
Uh uh oh left something in Moscow

Yes.... well done Pete have a shiny star.

I wouldn't have thought that Doherty or The Libertines were millionaires either.
In fact, I would still think they're living out of suitcases.

I'd reckon you're right. Most people fail to understand how the music industry works.
When you get signed up, as you'll see in places, artists get signed up for £xxxxxxx. That money is given to you by the record label, BUT its actually a loan, not a gift. The record label take everything you make until that loan is paid off. Its not hard to make a guess that quite a bit of the money Babyshambles were given will have gone on drugs etc. etc. Are their record sales enough to have paid back the loan? Not sure, I'd guess possibly not. They're big (god knows why), but not that big.
